No snow here in N CA. We are getting hit with wind and rain though.

These arrived a couple days ago.

Bought some of this for the first time. Ill broadcast it out in my garden area. It should grow real quick. "ground cover" I'm not real familiar with this stuff but I'm willing to give it a shot.

This is my rv fridge cab. 600 watts of cfls. I'll probably wait a month or so and start germing the GARDEN.

I need to get some new plastic for my raised bed tunnels and get some leaf lettuce and greens going early.

I had about 10 different varieties of tomatoes and peppers from Baker Creek/Rare Seeds I ordered a couple years ago and wasn't impressed by a lot of them... for instance the Amish Paste did awful for me both years I grew it. I never once saw a giant yellow monster pepper either but they did produce regular sized bell peppers that turned red.

Their Cherokee Purple seems ok but a couple of the plants always seem a bit disease prone and just die, I've done better and worse with it from starts from other places.

The best tomato plant I've found there I think is their "Black Cherry" cherry tomato which is a vigorous heavy yielder that produces lots of nice sized cherry tomatoes that are like mini cherokee purples.

I like their style and their catalog though so I'm going to order some more stuff for this year in the next few days.

I prefer the heirloom veggies but here's a couple nice hybrids that always produce great for me.... you can get them at most big box stores in the spring.

Plant a dozen of these in the ground and stake them up well, you'll have to hire someone to pick them...

These always pack on the peppers for me.

Oh and the Craig's Giant Jalapeno from Baker Creek didn't have any heat to it at all, more like a green pepper, didn't see any really giant jalapenos on them either, they seemed about the size of any other jalapeno.

What's some other good heirloom seed places?

Salsa challenge? Lol

Guess I'll start germing the veggie garden around Feb 1st and throw em in the rv fridge. That will be 8-10 weeks before going outdoors.
Hey, your idea of a salsa challenge is starting to grow legs,, I have been mentioning it in other threads,, So, do you want to start a new thread for the salsa challenge?,,,, or just let it happen in this thread with everything else growing indoors going outdoors?,,
thoughts?

rember when buying garlic from the store, to plant , it must be fairly fresh, any garlic thats been out of the ground for longer than 5 months , will have been treated with a growth retardent, to stop it shooting, & make it saleable, these cloves wont grow, & that is also the reason garlic almost doubles in price, fresh garlic around here is about $10-$12 a kilo , but in 4-5 months time, its $19 a kilo, because of additinal treatment
When you have grown your 1st batch, pick out the biggest bulbs you need for next season , & just hang them in a dry place, out of the sun, rembering that each bulb will have 10 nice cloves in it , if its been well grown
Dont let it shoot before planting (if possible) hold a clove up to the light & you will see a green shoot starting to develop inside, thats when i plant , which is normally end of summer early autum.........it has very few pest problems, & will happily grow all winter , but i must add we never get snow here, only a handfull of frosts a winter........good luck with ya vegie patch boys

I picked up two Cherokee Purple tomato plants from Lowe's this week, I need to get them in pots and outside. I have some 80's in my 10 day forecast, but I'm keeping them in pots for when we do get frost.

My go to tomato is Pruden's Purple, but I like CP pretty good too. I need to dig in the freezer and see what seeds I have.

Looking good. I had three cold nights. Down to 29F one night. I had to put my veggies in my subterranean greenhouse. Today I had to remove the glass to keep them from getting toasted.

I need to put the disc on the tractor and cut up the garden. I think it's safe to plant the peas, corn, and all that sort of thing.

We need to figure out the number of gardeners. Each gardener will have to get some type of jar of salsa shipped to them and they need to do the same. It's still early. We'll figure it out.
