it doesn't matter you're "legal" -- growing cannabis stinks (and in my opinion, so does ona gel). you are going to need to control the smell in an apartment just to be a considerate neighbor; late in flower, it is going to reek and trying to cover the smell isn't going to be adequate. take the suggestions and get a carbon filter and fan.

You can make a cheap carbon filter under 20 bucks that will work just as well as the expensive ones also careful with one in the same room if the air treated with it gets in your tent it will make your buds odorless

Also, i have this little clip on fan inside the tent now that i put at the end of the cool tube, it works to control the temps in the tent, but doesn't blow that hard. anyways that this little fan would do me any good at all or do these filters really not work without a good strong fan?

How does this little fan exchange the air in your tent? Because inline fans are not just about smell control and temps, air exchange is one of the most important things in growing weed well and the difference between airy low yields and rock solid high yields.

Right now I've got a big fan, like a house fan, that pulls air in from a bottom vent flap, and this little fan pushes it out through the cool tube. it does move air, If i place my hand outside the tent i can feel a steady stream of warm air coming out.

I've decided to get a proper inline fan though. Lots of reviews on amazon say that you need a fan speed controller or the filter doesn't do its job good. any merit to this?

will i need a fan speed controller switch? why will i need one? to lower the speed so that the carbon can do its job properly or what? if that's the case then maybe my current fan and just the carbon filter would work?

Cool, I see people a lot trying to get away with zero air exchange. Glad you have yours in good order.

No theres no merit to that comment, or almost none. If you run a very powerful fan through a cheap filter that's too small then It doesn't clean the air fast enough. But if you have a 6" fan for example and a 6" filter to match it of good quality then it will clean the air well. If you get a step larger filter then it works even better and lasts longer because of the greater volume of carbon.

The reason people use a fan speed controller is to run the fan slower which is quieter. That would also make your filter last longer but that's not why people use them. Some people use a speed controller with thermostat so they have better control over the temps. It will kick up to speed if temps get high and drop down speed if its cooler.

Both those products you linked look of reasonable quality.

Growing should not be a problem smell wise,But when it comes to taking it down that's when you will have Problems

Be great if you had some where to prune away from your home,this would keep the smell down .

alright man , thanks for the advice, I ordered just the fan and the filter. Quick question, do these fans come with two or three prongs to plug in? I have this dimmer switch for lamps, could this work for the fan? it's a little plug in that you plug lamps into and it limits the current i guess, idk

I'm in the UK so all fans I have bought come with standard 3pin UK plug, some have an earth some don't. Not sure if thatswhatyou mean. Its possible that dimmer would work but in all honesty I would find the electricians thread on here somewhere and ask a qualified person, wouldn't want you to risk your fuse blowing on the fan. I use a 5 step variac transformer to adjust the speed of my fans, it changes the voltage, that way the fan doesn't hum like they can do when cheap controllers are used. As I say consult an electrician on your dimmer question, I think there at least two threads in the grow room set up threads with qualified sparkys to answer questions.

Get an extra tent for drying and trimming, that way you can control the smells even after harvest.

Over sized filters are best. I run a 8 inch filter on a 4 inch fan.
