Photoperiod Plants and Light

Hi all,

I am trying to work with photoperiod strain, specifically for developing a mother plant. I'm using T5 HO for vegetation (with the option of a couple of LED's to use if needed). I intend to keep the plant in vegetation for as long as appropriate. If I work with plants when it is dark (in my case, 4 hours), will the plants hermie or are they okay seeing light since I am only vegging right now?

If you have 20 hours of light to work on your plants why bother them in the dark? Change their hours if that's the only time you have to work on them. 18 hours is lots.

I think I misstated my question.

I do realize I can change the lights-on time. The question was relating to if there are any light leaks (I mean light coming through pin-hole, tiny zipper style lights), will that cause a photoperiod plant to hermie? I am used to auto-flower plants and always read that the tiniest light can cause problems for photoperiod plants. I was wondering if those tiny little holes will cause the plant to hermie (the room itself is relatively dark during dark hours).

I doubt very much that those tiny light leaks will do anything but it is best to eliminate all light during their dark period. Most decent grow tents use light-tight zippers but unless you have very bright light outside the tent it shouldn't be a problem.

To answer your question, NO, they will not hermie under the conditions you describe. As long as the plant does not get 12 hours of darkness it will stay in a vegetative state. Its only AFTER the 12 hours of darkness starts triggering the flowering hormones that interrupting the dark cycle can cause hermie problems.
