That's a bad analogy, for someone who only misspelled one word.
I wouldn't of said anything if his thread was easy to read, It wasn't.....
I had to use my finger to follow along on my screen so I wouldn't skip a line.
I didn't mention all the misspelled words and lack of punctuation.
I can handle a misspelled word or two and even some bad punctuation. But when have to sit up close to my screen and follow along with my finger so I don't skip a line, that's pretty damn bad.
I hear what you're saying...my mom made me look it up every time I wanted to know how to spell a word, or its definition...so yeah, I think grammar and spelling are important because, all other things being equal, your writing is maybe one of the clearest pictures into who you are and how your mind works.
If I went around trying to correct people's mistakes, misunderstandings, or understanding of how to communcate EFFECTIVELY, I'd never get shit done. Especially in this day when the kids learn to txt before they talk... but if they CAN communicate, and they're doing what they can, in the way they can, then it is my responsibility to attempt to hear the message, and not get hung up on the vehicle, y'dig?
If I use a big word and you don't understand it, it's my fault for using a term that is not easily understood...it needs to be looked up before we go on or I'm doing a disservice to the person I'm communicating with. If I can't convey my point, despite my education and ability to compose a complex sentence - then I am not a very effective communicator.
My analogy was hyperbolic (not really) to illustrate the point...remove the plank from your eye before removing the speck from mine...or his. Or whatever.
If you don't like how the cat writes, put his book down.
I mentor 'at-risk' youth, and trust, I'm always telling them about how they present themselves, and their demeanor.
For example, I know a kid who's a third generation blood. The real deal...not a kid who liked red shoelaces and found a guy with a blood tattoo to beat him up and call him mixed. His grandma moved from LA with the gang homie who killed his grandfather in the early 80's...they continued to bang.
The parents are bangers. Mom is out after doing most of her boy's life in prison...for crimes around the gang. His father will never see the light of day and is lucky (depending on how you look at it) to not have gotten the death sentence for the sheer number of people he's killed.
The boy is hard to talk to... gangsta thru and thru. He's never known anything else...he is as fanatical as some programmed religious zealots I know...and way more dangerous, even at 14.
I guess what I'm getting at is: you don't know what makes people who and what they are... think about how hard it is to change your OWN behavior - now go ahead and try to change someone else's.
That's all I got, holmes. Peace.
