Combined to make an argument, a speech or a lecture.

Do you think it would it be morrally wrong for, let's say a professor to gather peoples' personal thoughts or knowelege from a forum and use it In a class or a lecture, without those peoples' permission?

Why not? It's not as if anybody actually owned anything said here. Much less profited from it. I'd laugh my ass off if our dialogue with enema ever showed up in an academic discussion.

I see nothing wrong with it as long as the person is not claiming that it is their own and not gleaned from the internet. If they are claiming that those thoughts are their own, then yes, dishonest.

Pretty sure TOS states what we willingly post is then public domain. We voluntarily gave up rights to it and it then can be used without our permission.

The thought doesn't bother me on the level of promoting knowelege and education, but just as @budlover13 just said, what if they used it as their own. Would be this a form of plagiarism? Is this morally correct

For me, I don't think anything I'm saying or anything anybody else says here is all that original. It might be something a social anthropologist might use to show internet tribal behaviors and some such. It's inconceivable to me that anybody would lift this shit word for word and claim it as his own. If he did, I'd laugh. And if anybody thought it significant, I'd laugh even more.

Plagiarism includes taking for a gain, doesn't it? What in heaven are we discussing that is worth stealing?

I have little doubt that's done all the time.

It's part of 'life experience' to use the thoughts of others when formulating your own opinions. Doesn't mean you agree with them, and you might think they're idiots, but your thoughts are usually influenced by other people's, one way or another.

It really depends on their ideas more than how they came up with them. I don't see a moral problem with refining your philosophy by using other's thoughts and ideas. It's the definition of 'study', no?

I would think there would have to be permission from the website to re-print, but nobody does it.

My first thought as another person stated was that the TOS removes any ownership of the messages you post once they are sent to the site.

So, it is not an ethical question at all. You post stuff here and the site owners can use it as they see fit.

If you want to change the scenario then maybe there is room for discussion.
