DIY with Quantum Boards

For clones and seedlings there fine but for veg they just make the plants too spindly and thin vs lush and stacked. At least that's been my observation so far.

Yea i get it. I hate my T-5's but only due to changing out bulbs all the time. Totally in love with the growth aspects. Can you show us what you mean by stacked? I assume you mean very close internode spacing, would love to see it. Very cool lights you guys got going on there.

What I have going now is in flower and stretched but bud sites all the way down to the bottom. Even the first single true leafs are green and normal. Plants are over a foot tall atm. I am starting a journal from seed and will document the growth stages as It goes. The grow I have now was just for testing and setting up.

Are these boards as good as Cree, Vero and Citizen? I am asking because I want to replace all my 1000 watts hps lights with cobs but it looks like that with this board is cheaper to do it. Thanks in advance

Narrow and longer boards. 3-4 inches wide 24 inches long. Still In Design phase and will take 2 months.
@muleface suggested 3x3 boards.

Don't know what batman is using.

Feel free to throw any suggestions.
I think a good model might be selling based on setup. If i went to your website and saw, a dyi board listed for a 4x4 grow tent with companion driver (maybe some wago connectors), i would be all over it. Then you could add setups for leafy greens. So a 6500k (or something) board with a lower wattage driver at sizes for specific spaces.

I think the real hangup is just just lack of understanding on actual needs. I see some people with these massive size and price grow lights and others with a more modest setup. Or some website sugeesting that i buy a $2000 led panel that has all these shiny bells and whistles on it. I guess if you are shooting for some incremental increase then spending the extra 2-3k is worth it. But for you average grower, front end and back end cost is a real consideration. I have no idea what my lights really cost me to run, as my wife pays the electric bill. :)

so as far as the 3x3 board goes, i just tossed out a number. now that look at it, it seems very impractical. it would be around 15 boards, so anywhere from 150 watts to 2250 watts and about 4560 leds. Not sure what you would want a setup like that. I suppose if you make the 3x3 boards with less diodes, it would make sense.

It would be cool if a board was made that would give near perfect coverage for a 4x4 space, make like 2 - 22 inch x 44 inch panels that snap together. have like 600 led diodes on each of them. give them 1 meaty driver that mounts remotely.

They are samsung leds, they seem good. The more i look at the cobs, the less i think it really matters on brand. Cree, Vero, Citizen, other good quality name brand. I think color, wattage and coverage should be of more concern. But again, i don't really care about efficiency. Perhaps if I had a huge setup that would be more of a factor.

As far as a 1kw light replacement, i would guess pushing 700-800 watts through maybe 6 panels might be about the same. But again, this is all just from what i have read. I think mileage will differ depending on your setup. If you are filling a grow tent then you could do less, if you are in an open space, you would need more. Or maybe your 1kw light is way over kill for your space and you really only need 400 watts from the boards.

what is your grow area look like?

Awesome man! This is gonna be fun. My first sog too, so we can see some penetration down low even though I'll be flipping them fairly short. Nice clean build once again! You are a master of your craft. Thanks again broski!

I believe 700-800 will replace a DE hps and 600-650 will replace a SE hps, I use more than one 1k light, I don't use tent to grow and not I don't over skill my space with lights.

Anyone know where I can get the same screws that screw the board to the heat sink. Just about 1/8 or 1/4 inch longer?

How many of this board do I need to replicate a1000 watts hps? What would be the parts to use in different combinations? Thanks

4 boards on 2 HLG240-1050 drivers will get you very close to a SE 1000. I have done builds for RETROFIT HID reflectors and the par meter says they are pretty close. Slightly different spread but no less intensity. The local store to me had a retrofit going and they absolutely love it. DSC_0578.JPG DSC_0582.JPG

that looks amazing! so do you actually need the cooling or because its there already you are using it?

It didn't occur to me to retro fit an old HPS hood. i really like the way it looks. I may pick a couple of used ones up and use them for my light fixtures.
