recommended ppfd range?

The key word here being "should".. hahahaha.

I agree... 2x2 with 200 watts of decent light produces a pretty decent yield if you have any idea what you are doing... 2 x2 tent, 4 autos in 2 gallon pots, 200w of light, 10 weeks from sprout yields I don't know 4-8 ounces? Not bad for doing nothing but adding water and a little nutes..
That's my exact situation...I'm building a 2x2x4 box and ordering a 200w light from Timber..today in fact. The ppfd is around 1200 at 24" on full blast so dimming it down is going to be necessary as I won't be running co2. I wouldn't want less than a 200w light going anyway. If I want to build a slightly larger box I can still use the same light.

4 to 8 zips seems like it would be fairly easy to obtain.

That said, I'm not going to split hairs on efficiency either...if it's a little more than I need..whatever.. I'd rather have too much than not enough...ah the joys of living in a first world country lol!

Hahaha... I'm in a 2x2 also... Running a 150 hps and 100 watts of CFL.. Works just fine. I'd definitely take that light.. Can't really go wrong no matter which cob you choose..

Which cob will you choose? Vero, Citi, or Cree? Going with 4 cobs in a square pattern?

i don't want to decrease my yield at all. I don't want to hurt my girls either. Is the PPFD decrease linear if i dim it? I only have 1 plant in there now, and will add 1 every 6 weeks forever.

I would have to guess.
It's too bad there's not an affordable PAR meter... I did see a website where you could rent one. You basically buy the meter and they refund you when you return it. I'll ask the guys at my Home Depot to get one and rent it out.. :)

I'm going with the Citi cob's. There isn't that much difference and from what some have said, it may even be better than Cree or Vero. That said, for what I'm trying to achieve, beyond a certain point, I don't think it really matters. The light, for that size space, is likely overkill as it is lol.

From what it looks like, Citi is the best value.

150w huh? I've never seen one of those. Do you have a journal link? I'd love to see your results. I have a 400w in a slightly larger box, not much mind you, and killed it in my last grow. 12. something oz of buds and 2.9 of sugar leaves. I defoliate so the fannies were disposed of. Almost a pound of pretty good stuff on just 3 20" plants. I was pretty pleased with that.

Thing is..I gave and sold most of it away. lol I still have 3oz left hermetically sealed somewhere...can't find it.. HA! lol

Yes, @RainDan is going to custom make it for me. I'm going 15" x 15" with the driver mounted on top flush rather than on the side then the dimmer in front.

I was going to go with the 250w then I saw @Olive Drab Green results and confirmed with Dan that it would indeed be too much light for my space. Damn ODG has 241W and is growing a friggin forest in his room so I thought the 200w on full tilt would be more than enough for me.

I ran my first grow with a 250w HID and had no clue what I was doing. I think I pulled something like 3oz off of that. I just looked back at the pics and I know I pulled them too soon. They look so pathetic lol. My last grow was amazing though...I learn quick thanks to the experience of others here.

Yea, I sold my 3x3 and 400watt HID.... It was a good setup, but the heat was a pain and it wasn't exactly stealthy.. I live in a 2 bed apartment so being able to cover my tracks is sort of important.

Yea, 150w Hps rigs are great. I always find a use for them. They're hot little bastards though since the ballast is part of the hood and you can't really air cool them. They cost about 60 bucks.. Great little light though...

Idk where the hell you would even take the readings lol.im under the impression that an average of 500ppfd is pretty darn nizzle :)
View attachment 3857084 View attachment 3857085

650 ooooooomoles at the tops and about 300ppfd at the bottom 12 inches depending on how and where i hold the meter.
No co2,canopy temps 78f and r/h stays a constant 35 to 40% day and night, might bump 50% rh at night before the dehuy kicks on :)
I run 450 ppfd and am happy with the results. but SPD plays a role in power requirements

I really want to see that g/w average you get from that grow. It will be quite nice

It probably won't be much more than 1.0 to 1.5 gpw cause the space aint quite filled up the way i grow, theres lots of space between the plant and walls and other plants.i like to give shit lots of room to breath haha.one of these days i will toss 6 or 9 smaller plants in that spot and put the screen back up.its just hangin there on the back wall for now

Here's my current grow.. Really packed them in there.. No room to breathe.... They're like "Letttt me outta herrrreee...." :) every now and then I have to go in there and break up a fist fight :)

I have to cull the herd once they show sex and I'll keep the best ones.

Hmm what strain is that? Fat leaves...
That's my own mix.. I was growing a Bubba 76 in my closet then decided to pop a Herbies Afghani freebie to see what it looked like. Afghani Turned out to be male so I let nature do it's thing. I have no viable weed, but I do however have lots of seed :)

I have to say that the growth has been excellent thus far... very vigorous. They all popped within a day or two.

sunny, i popped an afghani which happened to be a herbies freebie(gifted to me). Turned out to be a dude! Beautiful plant. chucked a bit of it's pollen just ofr tinkering's sake. All the research I've done on them has either been males or duds. Saw maybe 2 female grow logs on them that were never finished.

Just so that everyone has the knowledge of the information...

Compared against PPFD ratings above the canopy. PPFD ratings are often lower as light penetrates deeper into the canopy.
