How often do you guys calibrate your meters? I have my meter stored in a storage solution but every week or so it comes up with some funky ass readings that I know are way off. I have decided to get the general hydroponics liquid test to double check everything from now on.

Every week or two, and use the liquid to confirm every two two three. And also check the batteries if reading is slow bc I forget to cut it off at least once a week.

I haven't recalibrated mine. I also use the G&H liquid test to verify the pen. So far all is well and the pen hasn't needed to be recalibrated.

At some point I will use what came with the pen. a couple envelopes of calibration material.

7.0 calibieration liquid from GH , it also comes in 4.0 and 11.0

I hate ph testers so far....I wish I could put this thread to rest, but, I calibrated my ph pen and within 30 mins of its calibration I checked it against the GH pH solution I bought and the pen comes up at 7.2 pH but the GH test solution is clearly coming up around 6.5. I know that some people swear by the pen and some by the solution. I think I'm gonna just use the solution till I get a high quality ph tester. The one I am using currently btw is a HM Digital PH-80 pen.

Ya that's what I'm gonna rely on until I get a better meter. What a pain in the ass electronic testers are...at least for me so far

GH drops is all I use...I found the large 8 oz (237 ml) re-fill bottle....is much cheaper than the 1 oz (30 ml) bottle

Only thing that has gone wrong was the bottle tipped over and the lid wasn't tight enough, hence the carnage on the label

Ya I grabbed an 8 Oz bottle. I've been having some issues that I beleive are ph related but haven't had any success fixing it and the only thing I've noticed is I've been relying on the pen to PH. I'm gonna go by the GH solution and see if I have any luck from there. Thanks

I was reading some where's on here not to test ph on ro with a pen. Does the solution work on ro or is there truth to the pen and ro comment . I don't remember who posted it but I do remember it was detailed and seemed resnable. Any thoughts

Hanna Instruments HI99104 Educational pH Tester
This one gave me great results, I just recentily dropped one in a one gallon jug...
It broke, so had to buy another one for 20$ more than the original price which sucks

I've bought expensive ones, and cheap ones, used drops, papers. The one i've had for 3 years was 4.99 on ebay. Rarely needs calibration,works as well as any hanna, milwakie etc. I ever used.You don't even need storage solution.

I have the hm ph 200 water proof and has a replacement sensor 110$ replacement sensor is 50$ and is easily broken ( I'm on my third )

It isn't just the cost of the meter - you have 7.01 solution, 4.01 solution, cleaning solution, and storage solution. It's necessary for large operations that require almost constant pH monitoring, but for guys like me that only grow 4 plants at a time and hand water in coco, the pH drops are great. And cheap.
