Anyone else get bone chills and a minor anxiety attack reading that first part ....yikes.....They use a screwdriver, allen wrench or nut driver depending on the brand of hardware installed. They are usually 2.0mm cortical bone screws. Removal is actually very quick and easy requiring zero anesthetic; local or topical.
Technically you could do it. However if something happens and you need immediately re-wired the screws are still there and it's easy to whip safety wire back in.
However never having done this if you bugger the head or break a screw off, depending on how it's broken it's a bitch to get out. So leave them. If they bother you a bit try a little Oil of Cloves at the site. Oil of Cloves (Eugenol), is a good dental anesthetic used for dental caries pain.
C2G....can you give me a good remedy for the symptoms above after all it was your super intellegent post that caused em ....lol
