1st time grower need some help.

hey guys im new to this whole growing stuff..

It has recently become legal in my state to grow up to 6 plants at your home and i would like to grow 1-2 plants.

I have 6 seeds currently in a zip lock bag and paper towel with distilled water....it is cold here and winter is coming lol. i dont know if they will germinate or not due to it being so cold. I am also doing this very discreetly and do not want to get caught by mom dukes.

so my goal is to get atleast two plants to harvest... they are bag seeds i found so i dont know which are fem if any.


I am on a budget and do not want to spend much more money. i know the light i bought is prob not the best but will it atleast work. I plan on later getting better equipment but is there anything i do not have that you may feel is absolutely neccessary.

I don't think that 60W is going to be enough for 4sq. ft.

1sq ft, yes. But you can always upgrade, later. Might as well cut your teeth on this rig first.
I somehow doubt smell will be an issue, if you can ventilate the area/room, in general. But that depends on what sprouts.

Next time, try just dropping your seeds into a shot glass of water, and leave it in a darker (doesn't need to be pitch black) spot, but at room temp if not a little more. I put mine in a Ziploc snack cup (or whatever they're called) on top of a desktop computer over its power supply, and it works great as a heating pad. :lol: 24-36 hrs later, sprouts begin popping out. It is much simpler than towels, I assure you. Less headaches, for sure.

Uh, who is "Mom Dukes" ?

lol mom dukes aka my mother....shes old school weed is on same level as heroine and cocaine
do you think i would survive until harvest if i have 2 60w bulbs for the one or two plants...and by cut my teeth you mean the ends of the fan leaves correct? i was also going to put paper towel under mattress but im not sure that would help

dude quit now before your Portuguese mom whips your ass.....yes you'll get caught.. the smell is hard to control even with proper venting and scrubbers

lmao not Portuguese but damn close...im cape verdean....also i will be growing in a small office in the basement where she barely goes...there is a small window im not sure if it opens or not prob not ....but this office can be locked.

General rule of thumb for a CFL: 80-100W per square feet. Also if you are doing it at a place where it is illegal and where your mom can find it, I would advise against it. So lets say you get 400W of CFLs (and this means true watt, not what they say it will replace) that is generating about the same power as a small to medium size refrigerator, so someone might notice the spike in your electricity use.

its legal to grow here in my state. Im trying to grow with the cheapest lights i can find.

Your going to need to do some more research. You need a lot more stuff like an exhaust fan, carbon filter (for the smell), humidity monitor, reflector. I am using CFLs for the first 2-3 weeks of seedling phase and switching them out to LEDs later on close to veg. You might want to use this as a blue print as it is a 2'x2'x4' tent and albeit being used for veg, it can be used for flowering too with the same setup
