A petition started this morning on Change.org has started a process to have the Electoral College bow to the popular vote, and refuse to nominate Trump as the 45th POTUS. This is from Yahoo

The election of Donald Trump as president is a bitter pill to swallow for millions of Americans — and some are backing a quixotic campaign to reverse that outcome.

As of Friday afternoon, more than 2.4 million people had signed a petition to the U.S. Electoral College, urging its members to ignore their states’ votes and cast their ballots for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

“Mr. Trump is unfit to serve. His scapegoating of so many Americans, and his impulsivity, bullying, lying, admitted history of sexual assault, and utter lack of experience make him a danger to the Republic,” wrote Elijah Berg, who launched the petition on Change.org.

Berg, of North Carolina, argued that the Electoral College can award the White House to either candidate and should use its own “most undemocratic” institution to ensure a “democratic result.”

I signed this morning and at that point there were 1 million signees, and by this afternoon it had expanded to over 2 million.

Let's keep up the good work to dump that POS, and let the popular vote decide who will be the next POTUS.
If you think this election is a farce, go to Change.org and vote.

God bless the Republic. (fuck Trump)

They might run headfirst into the provisions of the Twelfth Amendment. (Thanks A. for drawing my attention to this) Here is the text of the Amendment per Wiki.

The Electors shall meet in their respective states, and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves; they shall name in their ballots the person voted for as President, and in distinct ballots the person voted for as Vice-President, and they shall make distinct lists of all persons voted for as President, and all persons voted for as Vice-President and of the number of votes for each, which lists they shall sign and certify, and transmit sealed to the seat of the government of the United States, directed to the President of the Senate.

The President of the Senate shall, in the presence of the Senate and House of Representatives, open all the certificates and the votes shall then be counted.

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice. And if the House of Representatives shall not choose a President whenever the right of choice shall devolve upon them, before the fourth day of March next following, then the Vice-President shall act as President, as in the case of the death or other constitutional disability of the President.[Note 1]

The person having the greatest number of votes as Vice-President, shall be the Vice-President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed, and if no person have a majority, then from the two highest numbers on the list, the Senate shall choose the Vice-President; a quorum for the purpose shall consist of two-thirds of the whole number of Senators, and a majority of the whole number shall be necessary to a choice. But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.[1]

I think the electoral college is a leftover from a time when instant communication was impossible. modern technology makes it an anachronism more suitable for gaming elections than honestly supporting them.

I'm not saying the Chump wasn't elected fairly. Under the current rules, he won. I don't like it but I accept the voice of democracy... DNC shenanigans aside.

I think it's time we simply got rid of the electoral college system altogether. By constitutional amendment if necessary.

Why do we need any representative form of government would be a question I might ask. Why can't we direct vote for everything? Get rid of the Senate, House etc.... Simplify and save.
This is actually a practical option now that almost everyone is in instant, high-bandwidth communication. We can finally mount the crypto (processor-intensive data security protocols) needed for rapid, massive, secure communication, e.g. of a vote on an open referendum ....

We just had a chance to vote him out.

Now imagine if he lost and he was spearheading this effort against hillary.
Democracy worked, now we live with the results for 4 years. We lived through bush we'll live just fine through trump.

The DNC misplayed their cards when they fucked Bernie. Should be blaming them.
Bernie would have beat Trump hands down.

Because running government is a full time job and we need representatives to speak and work for us. The fact that they currently don't do a lot of work for the middle class is a separate, if valid issue.

There are other reasons too.

I'm not sure of that. Then again this is precisely why I stay out of politics completely. My opinions are somewhat 'wild' to say the least and yes they are based on facts but not really able to discuss unless we spent an evening together over a few bowls. I'd enjoy spending an evening or two shooting the shit with you. You always say something interesting.

I'm just here to celebrate CA legalizing only to be informed the sky is falling ;D

It was also instituted for the benefit of slave owners in the South, where they used the " Three Fifths" clause to insure an equal voice in Washington. The "Three Fifths"th clause was an amendment meant that a slave was counted as Three Fifths of a human being so they would have equal voice due to population. Below is from Wikipedia.

The Three-Fifths Compromise was a compromise reached between delegates from southern states and those from northern states during the 1787 United States Constitutional Convention. The debate was over whether, and if so, how, slaves would be counted when determining a state's total population for legislative representation and taxing purposes. The issue was important, as this population number would then be used to determine the number of seats that the state would have in the United States House of Representatives for the next ten years. The effect was to give the southern states a third more seats in Congress and a third more electoral votes than if slaves had been ignored, but fewer than if slaves and free persons had been counted equally, allowing the slaveholder interests to largely dominate the government of the United States until 1861.[1] The compromise was proposed by delegates James Wilson and Roger Sherman.

We also repealed it. Some bad law stays a long time before it gets addressed.
