freestanding self-contained unit ?

anyone know of a freestanding self-contained unit to grow for personal use only? I am so tired of closet growing and outdoors is too chancy where I am located. I am tired of unprofessional, unreliable sellers in my area and want a nice simple piece of "furniture" that is easy to set up and get going for only a few plants at a time. Anyone ?

I am looking to spend somewhere between $400-$600 bucks, Is this even do-able or am I dreaming again? If it helps, I am in the Los Angeles area and thinking an armoire -sized set-up. Any help greatly appreciated.

Also, can those other "paid for" private forums help me find a reliable connection? I'm not a kid that is "out there" meeting all types and need some help .

get something like this

New Professional 48"x48"x78" Hydroponic Grow Tent Hut - eBay (item 140265561084 end time Sep-13-08 23:13:52 PDT)

could be exactly what the doctor ordered.. of course you'd still have to set up your nice light and cooling. would be well worth it tho
I would be extremely cautious buying a grow tent made with PVC inner lining, such as the one linked above. There are many accounts of plants being killed because the lining gave off some noxious gas when heated up.

Believe it or not, that is EXACTLY what I am designing and planning on building right now. My skills are not that good, so anything that I could build, you could too.

I priced it, and it would cost me roughly about $500 or so to build it. The only thing is that I already have the 400 watt light, so you would have to get that and add it to the cost, but you could just as easily not use Fatmat (some don't think it's neccisary, but I would argue), and if you take that out it would save about $140 or so.

whoa that hadn't even crossed my mind.. i'll look into that as i'm planning to upgrade my old wooden wardrobe in the next few months.
a D.I.Y. might be the better option indeed then... cheers
