It probably herm'd just a bit, maybe a single ball. Either heat stress or it's dragging a dominant herm gene. The genes still read female, but the plant will produce male balls; however, instead of male pollen, the pollen will read that the pollen parent is actually female. So when you have a single strand of DNA, that first set of two contain two sex chromosomes, one from each parents. Both sex/parent chromosomes will read "female." So there's essentially no chance of male.
