Decent heat pipe tech? What do you mean? Heat pipes simply move the heat a short distance and do it very efficiently, but they are still limited by the heatsink they are attached to.

From the specs Robin stated you're talking about 1.84lbs vs 1.86lbs. Which is why he said they weighed the same I guess but I highly doubt the 0.02lb difference is accounting for 5° and 8° difference in temps. Splayed pins FTW! I wonder if you could just heat the 140's up to bend them?

And heatsinks in CPU's haven't changed in decades. The only thing that changed is that systems produce way less heat now because components became way more efficient.

2 or 3 boards on a HLG-240H-C2100 for 4x4
3 or 4 boards on a HLG-320H-C2800 for 5x5

2 boards on a HLG-240H-C2100 should be good for 20"x36"x60"

Heatsink USA 7.9 is a good option. @Stephenj37826 built this one

SST 105 only available in Vero 29/3590 for now. SST 120 for Vero 18, clu48 in 2 weeks.

Just 'spread the pins' of 120 and it will be as good as a 140mm heastink.
140mm pins too thick and break before they bend. Not sure if heat will work.

desktop user boxes? maybe, real, high performance pc, Customer gaming rigs, servers, high end workstations need high levels of heat dissipation.. Intel still has a number of chips that exceed 100 watts, stock and can double that overclocked. Video cards use heatpipe tech also, and some of the dissipate over 300watts of heat! Overclocking a cpu is just like turning up the amperage on a COB . The legions of hardcore gamers will galdly tell yo your wrong. Some of the current aircooled heatsinks rival water cooling systems for pcs. DIY people into computers are every bit as driven to squeeze out the last bit of performance are any other group. They push pcs beyond their limits to test the boundaries. apparently, you are 10 years behind the times

Heat pipe tech does not benefit us like it does PC builders. We dont have sensitive electronics that are packed into tight places like in a PC. I think youre missing the point that heat pipes do not dissipate heat, they still need to be attached to a heatsink. Then you have to ask yourself if youre actually benefiting from the heatpipes moving the heat a few inches before its radiated into the air.

Also, all water is in a watercooled PC is a fluid heatsink. Therefore its not surprising that aircooled systems can perform in step with them. Assuming they are using radiators to cool to ambient and not actively cooling the water. Add active cooling and watercooling becomes much more effective and versatile, more so than actively cooling the air.

Also costs should be considered when discussing cooling. Which goes back to heat pipes adding more cost than their benefit imo.
