I plan on blowing (with my fan) air from the box out the chimney. So I will have air constantly circulating inside the box pulling the hot air out. I hope this makes since. I have insolated my attic fairly well.
if i understand what you;re doing, i have the same comment about mixing input and exhaust air - it will not work. you do not need to mix air with your exhaust - just have it vented to the chimney. you don;t really need the box, just a sealed duct on the exhaust of the acThe AC unit is going to be set up so the cool air is blowing into my garden. I will build a box around the back of the unit. The back side of my box is the outside wall of my attic. That outside wall has a vent in it (going directly outside). This is the vent I plan on passively drawing in air. Then I plan on blowing (with my fan) air from the box out the chimney. So I will have air constantly circulating inside the box pulling the hot air out. I hope this makes since. I have insolated my attic fairly well.
"I will be using a 15k window air conditioner for the room running in closed loop mode so it does not bring in or exhaust outside air for smell or co2 reasons."
What will you do with the hot air the AC spits out?
you could use sheet metal to build a funnel type thing. maybe a small wooden box would be perfect for the job. something like 4 inches deep, and the size of the back of the ac unit. fit it right up against and foil tape it together. I've seen other people do something like this, there are pics around online. I'd do it, but I can't have the noise.Ok I understand now. Thank you all for the help. I am going to need to seal off the entire back side of my AC unit and duct it out the chimney. What can I use to seal around the back of the unit to gather it all into my 6 duct?
If you are doing it in an attic and running it in a closed loop mode meaning just the tempered air side.. why do you even need a box?? It will just intake and exhaust air from the attic for the condensor(back) side..I think that means the cold air side is closed loop.
the hot air side (exhaust) doesn't need much of a "box". it just needs something to gather the exhaust air together and funnel it into the ducting. just duct the exhaust air from the back into the chimney. the ac unit will breath in from the sides, this can be passive intake from the outside.
a small box to help collect the hot exhaust air from the back of the ac unit. connect the ducting to that small box and route it to the chimney. try to have fresh air coming in near or directed towards the side intakes to help it run more efficient. If you are doing it in an attic and running it in a closed loop mode meaning just the tempered air side.. why do you even need a box??
