Thanks for the time writing this up. My drying conditions were at 72F and 50%RH. I harvested on Oct. 14, so it's been about 12 days now. I was just curious if i left too many of those sugar leafs on. You suggested that i remove those too? there's a lot of trichomes on them, i suppose that will enhance the high since it will be all buds and not many leafs. I still have much to learn about drying and curing. As for dank. It has a lot to do with drying and curing methods. If dried to fast it could taste like lawn cuttings. To much ventilation also sucks the smell out. Especially on the outside of the buds.
You want a dark area. Set up A/C and dehumidifier. Set the DH to 50%. Then set up the A/C at what ever setting keeps the temp close to 70 degrees. Try not to blow the cold A/C air directly on the flowers. Also don't allow the heat to build up around DH. The last thing is have the exhaust fan set to the lowest possible speed that keeps the smell down. Ideally there would be no exhaust at all. Don't let them over dry. Then cure them in an air tight mason jar. Burping it daily. Never allowing moisture to build up in the jar. If this happens you jumped the shark. And you need to let them dry out a little more. Many people say don't jar it until the small stem snap if bent. I think that's to far dry. The longer the cure the better the taste.
It's fine to dry with those leaves on. I was talking more final product. Thanks for the time writing this up. My drying conditions were at 72F and 50%RH. Those trics on the sugar leaves should be saved separately. Then you can do many things with it. I know early on I wouldn't throw out crapola. I still probably save to much. You can dry ice it, use bubble bags to collect it, or even make butters / oils. The problem is it takes time. One of these days I'm gonna get off my ass. I've got 2/3 of a 32 gallon 4mil HD plastic bag filled with sugar leaves and popcorn buds. Probably an easy 2-3 elbows if trics I've just got to decide on which method to use. I've done the dry ice. I find it kind of messy. Shaking that bag is easy. Controlling the pollen as it passes through not so easy. What ever I try shaking it into always gets in the way of shaking the bag. I bought a whole set of 5 gallon bubble bags. But I've never tried it and it seems like it would take a lot of water and ice to get through what I have. Maybe this winter I can fill a 32 gallon trash can with RO water and leave it outside to get dam near 32 degrees. So it won't take as much ice and I can just roll right through it. But then I've got ppl asking for something to put in their ecigs. But to be honest I wouldn't know what to charge. I tried selling the pollen from dry ice method and it drew no interest. It didn't seem to matter it would couch lock them for hours. They just could NOT adjust to powder. I've still got balls of it the size of baseballs. Even myself I'd rather smoke a J any day! Thanks for the time writing this up. My drying conditions were at 72F and 50%RH. I harvested on Oct. 14, so it's been about 12 days now. yesI hang dried for 5 days. Buds cured in jars 5 days for a total of 10 days so far.
You think I should trim the "sugar" leafs off or not?
Also. It's starting to smoke good. Not great yet. Still smell a little grassy. When does it get dank?

My exact answer as well .....at least a month for the smell/curing to even start to become evident IMO ....Yeah trim those little leaves off. Cure for at least a month.
The tobacco smell is your nutrients or insecticide. Did you spray for bugs? It's been about 3 weeks from harvest. The buds don't smell super dank yet. They smell fruity with overtones of pine. There's also this tobacco like smell to it. Hard to decribe. Smokes really smooth but taste has a tobacco like taste to it. It's decently strong, leaning towards a sativa high.
I placed them pretty much jars with boveda when my RH was stable at 64. They're also still a tad fluffy. I think I should probably take most of those little green leafs off like most of you have suggested. Perhaps this will help it dense up. They have been steady at 62RH for a few days now.

Only sprayed neem during veg and BT all the way to harvest week. The tobacco smell is your nutrients or insecticide. Did you spray for bugs?
Then your nutes. What bug spray? some stay in plant foreverOnly sprayed neem during veg and BT all the way to harvest week.
I also washed my buds really good with doc buds method. So I don't think it could be from the bug spray.
