whats up with cree (corporate)?

The stock has been the topic of debate for weeks, and it's not doing well.

We are all on here praising them and I just used their COB's to build a couple of lights, but they did not meet $$ expectations this quarter and it has investors scared.

i dont invest in these markets (well other than products) - i wonder how the other chip makers are doing relatively. COB prices have fallen off a cliff in last 12 months (great for us but not always for the companies)

I'm starting to wonder with this going on with Cree now if there is something going on industry wise we the common guys are not aware of.......

its been discussed recently here, cant remember which thread. were approaching the limits of phosphor-on-die based chips. it seems all the gains are in thermal management/die size. the newest chips have "flatter" flux vs. current curves and get a higher percentage of the theoretical maximum performance at elevated currents.

crees have great dies but not enough of them. when i put them next to another chip of similar LES they look like the fisher-price version of the same chip. its astonishing the density were seeing in some of the newer chips. 22mm les beating out last year's 35 mm les

thats kinda what i was implying the ceramic hasnt held up well and i figure they have to be pretty close to the limit if we believe the press releases with 300 lumens a watt

Considering the that China issued 27 billion yuan in debt for a net gain of 8 bill in August alone, something like a 27% jump in new credit issuances.
I don't know if anyone around pays attention to global financials, but there has basically been a recession going on before and since 2007.

The baltic dry index has never been lower.
WTI and the Dow Jones are completely uncoupled along with quite a few other commodity markets, copper anyone?
Hanjin's bankruptcy?
Ford idling 4 plants, one of which is one of two of the best "selling" pickup [maybe even globally] F150 factories.
Nothing is growing, we are moving into the Non Growth era, despite what the fuck talking heads might be pontificating about....that's a larger picture that NO ONE is willing to admit at this time....the world is on fire on the inside, sorry this will and has spilled over into tech. Keep watching.

I would just say its not Cree, hint hint, but they remind me of Apple the 1st time, or hundreds of other businesses who have ridden the same model into oblivion. Sucks.

I use Cree too.

I did see an email just yesterday from Kingbrite, assuring me that the "New" cree cobs would be here in a couple of weeks.....hmmm

Everyones soldiering process has greatly improved in the last 12 months is my understanding . What this had led to is a plethora of companies that have very decent products and it has created a price war. Cree is in a very tough position right now. They no longer have the comfortable lead on the competition that they once had so now they are having a hard time justifying their premium price tag .

and how much do we really know on this board on the inner workings of the actual LED market?

I mean the whole bridgelux and Osram for sale signs have never been acknowledged to a great degree.

Who is pressing the actual physical components for Bridgelux, my educated guess is a certain Taiwanese manufacturer. Since Toshiba dropped them along the wayside. Hell, a few of us thought Blux was done, about a year ago.

I think there are a lot of factors in why a "stock" rises and falls. Hundreds, depending on the shareholder sitch.

So now you have a price war and low growth. That can be the kiss of death in any industry.

cree is not doing well in hardware stores. their prices are dropping dramatically and this is there primary market. SMDs are becoming more effiecient and provide more uniform light distribution and other companies are matching or beating cree efficiency at lower prices.might be a good stock for a short sale

guess they don't want to panic consumers and cause them to stop spending. many of us now that Washington is owned by wall street. they want to keep the bubble going for as long as possibly

not worried about WW3. foreign countries own too much of this country to bomb their own real estate.trump has a "bromance" with Putin and no other country could present a credible threat to us. high quality bonds do well in a panic as well
