Because it's not my responsibility to pay a company's employees a living wage, it's the employer's responsibility
You will pay it either way.
-You will pay for the legislation to mandate the living wage.
-You will pay for it as a consumer at the service lever in higher product costs and/or lower quality product/service.
-And you will pay for it later in inflation.

Also, I haven't seen any mention of this here yet; apologies if it has been touched on:

A lot of below minimum wage service providers are happy to do it because it allows them to enter into the free market without too many hassles. If you have a good night and get say, $500 in tips; most of that can be brought home tax free.

Dont abolish tipping. I like to tip those at say a restaurant when they are working hard, make my kids laugh, quick to get order, refills, etc.

But a percentage based tip just because I bought something? Fuck that, you gotta earn it.

If they need the income to pay their employees, then build it into the price and then I will decide at the new price whether or not your meal and business are worth my patronage.

I wont eat at any place that automatically builds gratuity into the bill. Build it into the price of your services or fuck off.

Irony.

Who has the right to set the terms of any kind of a just agreement ? Does one party only have that right or should the agreement be based in a mutual meeting of the minds over the terms ?
The society has the right to set terms.

You will never make those agree, who wish to pay less than the minimum required, because it is they, who citizens need protections against.

I wish there was tipping at the DMV.
You haven't lived until you've been to a south Florida DMV. When I took my daughter for her license I told her to look around..these are the people who will be on the road with..do you trust them to make the correct judgement when on the road? Daughter: Mom they can't even read English and have to be coached on signs. Mom: yup..like I said.

Wrong.

Most restaurant bills are paid with credit/debit card..which is known as a paper trail. You better report everything that goes through this or you will pay during audit. And yes, restaurant is the highest audited by IRS due to its cash nature.

This goes for tipped staff as well as the restaurant.

As a restaurant owner, you will need to do Tip-to-minimum, Shortfall, FICA Tip credit reports for basic tipped employees.

at least.restaurant profit will be 33% of the actual meal cost(to the customer)roughly.figure in a $7-8hr increase in each employees pay and tack that on to the meal cost if a guest stays and eats for an hour.
They already do..that's why many restaurants charge flat 18% gratuity on seating of 6-8 or more.
