Newbie bagseed grow with diy cabinet and cob

This is my second and more serious attempt growing. I made a few fatal mistakes the first go around, but I have learned.

I've been germinating some bagseed using the paper towel method and after 2 days I've had 4 pop. Got them sitting in solo cups full of roots organic soil with plenty of drainage holes. (I may have overwatered the hell out of the last plants in some cheap soil) I plan on moving them to 1 gallon fabric pots when they are ready.

My cabinet is one I made myself with 1/2 inch mdf. I've got a pair of 120mm of fans for exhaust, passive intake, and 2 more 120mm fans for circulation. I'm hoping my exhaust setup is adequate. I'll be using that cheap cut to size carbon filter stuff, and they will be blowing through about 1 1/2 sq feet of it so there shouldn't be too much resistance.

I've mounted a cree cxa 3070 (3500k) to an amd stock cooler and it's being driven by a meanwell driver at 1.4 amps. I'm planning on buying the components to make another one next week, and to clean up the holy hell that is my wiring.

I would love any input you have on my setup and methodology. Peace!

2 days after germination and I've had 3 out of 4 sprout. Hoping #4 is on its way, I'm not a gambling man and would rather have some higher odds at getting a lady. But, so far I haven't managed to kill them lol. temps ran a little high yesterday, but it was hot out and I always have the option to run the AC if I want.

I am looking for a nice tent setup to replace my ghetto cabinet when I am able to. So far I have my eyes set on the Secret Jardin DP90 listed on Amazon. I've heard that the brand makes quality stuff and being 3' wide X 2' deep X 3' height, it's perfect for my closet space. Throw in a 4" carbon filter, a cheap 6" or 8" booster fan (with adapters), and a speed controller and that should cover ventilation.

thanks for following all :D that's all I have for today

Looks good, how much would you guess it costs to build a light like what you made?
I spent approximately $35 for the cob, $15 for the driver and I had a cpu cooler to use, but they can be had for like $10.

Lookup a user named supraspl, he seems to be one a master of cob growing and has great write-ups on RIU and a few other forums.

Just a little progress update. I don't think my 4th seed is going to sprout. I will probably water them tomorrow. Good thing I have a handy meter to check the wetness of the soil this time around lol.

Looks good! but to be honest i find my fo
Inger to be more reliable than one of those meters! Ive used one of those when i first started growing

Well, the third seed never broke through. Good thing I'm just using bagseed right now and I haven't had an issue with them yet. I watered them yesterday for the first time and I should have at least another day or two until they will need it again.

Im going to be placing my order with midweek song in a few weeks as well as order my 2nd cob/driver/heatsink, and my nutes this weekend. I'm thinking either fox farms or general hydroponics. They both seem to be pretty previlent in other grow journals and I'm sure I can't go wrong with either choice.

I think that I'm going to get the 24"x24"x48" then that quiktent sells. It's cheap and the only complaint that I've heard about it is the zipper quality. It also seems to fit my my height requirement of under 54" due to my limited space. I'm picking it over the arguably higher quality secret jardin tent because of my love for sativas and I'll need all the vertical space I can get.

Looking good man. Dont stress about the slightly mottled growth on your seedlings right now either. I have had it happen before with certain strains and they always grow out of it.

I use GH nutrients, Ive tried everything from the fox farm trio, to botanicare, to General Organics, to house and garden which is way too expensive. I like GH although they all work fine. I just use suppliments from different conpanies but the GH as my base.

Also I have some wonderful sativa strains beans if youd like to try some for me? All bred at home carefully. PM me if interested. Ive got way too many beans to do with and currently @714steadyeddie is trying a couple that i sent him. I only offer because you say you have a love for sativas and i do too.

I'm not too worried about the growth. The last 4 started the same way and I'm doubting that the genetics are going to be to good on the schwag seeds I'm growing. Also I'm not certain that I have the ability to pm yet. Either that or I'm just completely lost trying to navigate the mobile website. But I am definitely interested!

Ahh! You may not have that ability yet. I forgot about that!

9 days from germination and they are drinking water faster than ever now! I'm planning on transplanting into 1 gallon fabric pots around Wednesday, when I should receive my General Hydroponics Flora trio nutes.

I'm going to be ordering the components for my second cob. I'm going with a 4000k Cree cxa3070 Z2 bin to pair with the 3000k 3070 that I have. (I had thought earlier that I had a 3500k).

This is a complete part list for everything involved in the cob and heatsink upgrade.

I'm gonna have both cobs going in my cabinet until I finish this grow and I'll upgrade to a bigger tent and more lighting.

Anyways, I'm pretty excited in the amount of growth and lack of any issues that I've had so far :hump:. I do now believe that the medium also makes a huge difference. Roots Organic has a lot of compost/fertilizers and is like 30% perlite/pumice. I can't wait until I can try a few Utopia Haze seeds by Barney's Farm. It sounds like just the strain for me!

Day 15

They were transplanted into the 1 gallon fabric pots on Monday and got their first dose of nutes yesterday. The shipping took a little longer than expected for the nutes . 1 of my plants looks to have a n deficiency, but I'm sure it'll be fine now that they are getting the full dose.

I also decided to Fim them today.

Hopefully I can get 3 or 4 offshoots and I will lst a little. Depending on how mature the new branches are, I'm wanting to flip to 12/12 in about a week or 2. I just want to have a nice little grow under my belt before I drop money on seeds and upgrading my grow space.

Also just ordered new heatsinks for the Crees, and I've received my new cob and driver. Hopefully the heatsinks ship soon so that I can have my 120 watts of efficient cree cob lighting installed.

Day 25 Veg

I've been using lst a little along with defoliation to even out the tops and keep them small. I'm pretty much having to water them every day and a half now and this in these pictures they've just gotten watered after 2 days so they got a little droopier than normal in between waterings

I'm moving in about a week and a half and that's when I will build a 2'x2'x4' cabinet, move them into there, and flip to 12/12.

I think I should be OK on vertical space until then. The left and middle plants are raised to match the height of the right plant too.

I'm planning on using cheap 2"x2" furring strips for the frame of my cabinet with 1/4 sanded aspen plywood for the panels and door with a 1"x2" furring strip frame for the door. The lumber, hardware, and white paint come in under the price of a grow tent of the same dimensions and has the advantage of not looking like something pot is grown inside of lol. Just gotta make sure I can maintain quiet ventilation and I should be A-OK.

I think for my next grow I am going to do 3 or 4 plants starting out in 1 gallon pots and then 3 gallon pots in my new cabinet. I will probably top/lst/scrog them as well.
