Is it possible for a plant's trichomes to genetically not turn amber?

Hi there,

I'm growing this feminized autoflower, and the plant is looking pretty done. Foxtailing and leaves turning yellow (see picture). She's about 10 weeks old. I'm waiting for amber trichomes to appear but it hasn't happened... yet. I'm planning on waiting it out another week to see what happens, but I don't want yellow buds.

Is it possible to have a certain genetic where the trichomes don't amber?

Sometimes stress ect can slow down flowering/ripening , Some strains also dont turn color at all, you'll need to check for maturing trich heads (out of round, falling over ect) calyx's only.

I'm having problems loading the pic.
To answer your question, Some sativa strains do not get amber like indicas do. Sativas are easier to tell if the hairs have turned brown, receded, and the swell has happened. In any case sativas should always have full cloudy trychomes and some only get 10% amber.
Remember to always check the trychomes from the calyx not the leaves.

So the answer to your thread question is ....YES.....I've also heard some autos don't get any amber at all ..I've never seen this because I don't personally grow autos but you can easily find the rite characteristics to look for near harvest on here ....especially if you know what strain your growing ...GL

Il have to dig up an article I read actually not to long ago about this exact subject ...I found it to be pretty interesting and had some info/evidence to back up the claim of not always trusting the amber thing .....I've had friends who grow nothing but autos and have had them not go amber whatsoever and I've also heard that about autos on here to from some people .....anyways il see if I can find that read for you to check out it's pretty interesting .........by the way I still go by amber trichs but I do believe still it's possible for plants not to change color ......it's also possible to win the lottery so idk

i haven't checked trichs in close to twenty years. i have let plants flower months longer than they should have.

i wait for the swell and incumbent overall color change. the 'done' look, as it were...

Yeah I see people harvest before or during the fucking swell sometimes ...there totally is a done look I laughed when I read that cause my wife gets antsy to sample and come middle flower the are we there yet question starts flying like crazy ......but when she asks me how I know when it's ready I always tell her .....it has a done look lol Being a smart ass to her of course but infact it's very true once you get use to it there's a done look just like a nice steak cooked to perfection

absolutely. you can tell at a glance if you know what to look for.

And still harvested to early ....some people just don't understand the weight some strains can put in in the last stretch .......I'm in Not Ca area and a neighbor down in the valley at my other house brought over a sample of outdoor in the second week of September last year said it was dried and cured nice .....I pretended to be in a hurry quickly thanked her and disappeared opened up the container and wanted to cry ....I still have it actually .....gave her a sample of mine and she said her husband almost panick attack

some strains only make clear, cloudy and brown

some make early amber some make late amber and some amber up around the time you want

normally down to the strain, lighting and what you feed them
