I personally think edm/dub step etc. Should have there own genre of art. Because in my book it doesn't really take any musical talent. It takes computer skills.

Granted I haven't listened to a ton of edm but I've never heard any that I would consider listening to a second time. For that reason I've had people that are fans debate with me based on the definition of the word music. But really how many successful edm artists do you think are out there that know the first thing about theory?

alot man, alot, the older ones especially.

don't forget edms been going for decades now, so people take it serious as an art, you're right it does take computer skills but without a doubt i know people with mad pc skillls and they can't write for toffee.

so you're slightly wrong there sorry.

and edm is dubstep, all electronic dance music is edm. it's a sub genre.

Well yes, I would imagine its a specified computer skill set. And I'm sure some people that are passionate about it devote a lot of time to developing those skills.

A lot of the stuff I've been shown by people doest seem to reflect skills in musical theory or an.understanding of it. But I don't doubt a bit that in its beginning it was more musically fueled.
But the modern stuff just seems to me like the easy way out to create something that can technically be defined as music. Not to mention I feel like as it is becoming more and more popular that the general population is becoming less and less interested in traditional instrumental music and how music works in general.
That thinking is based on fans I've met and am friends with, and from talking to people at a few electronic music festivals I've gone to.

For the money, they do write some tracks like a production line factory. Pumping them into clubs week in week out which are generally crap, but the young clubbers love it and the sell a lot.

It's like this with everything tho, look at cheap chinese leds ? :) the same ha !! :) we should use the sun more and beat sticks on logs like real musicians :P

older ones and newer ones have diff tastes i suppose.

90% of the music I listen to is and always has been electronic. I always liked the deep UK garage/dubstep sound from early to mid 2000's, but really hated the brostep shit.

ps. if you like any well produced music, then do yourself a favor and buy a SubPac.
