seeds refuse to germinate..

I've been avidly reading RIU everyday and now decided to join in (just found out I was already a member lol).

Well, I have grown only once in my life with 2 floro tubes (2 foot) and did not even reach the flowering phase when my 2 lovely plants just decided to die. I was a beginner then and have read A LOT since.

Now, I have acquired N. Lights fem seeds and decided to germinate 2. I placed them in between 2 soaked papers and waited. 3 days passed, nothing happened. I decided to place them in some soil and see what happens. Temp was around 70 F and it has been in the soil for 3 days, thats 6 days, still no germination.

I put 2 Bagseed seeds in soaked cotton now (my so called safe plan) and in between 2 tea saucers, over a mild heater.

Why aren't my seeds germinating?
P.S. I got 4 CFL 125W each for Veg. Planning on a small grow maybe 2 or 3 plants. WHere I come from we can't get those fancy HPS/MH lights but I can get a normal HPS or MH (floodlights?), would they work????

thanks in advance

If you're familiar with peat pucks use them, i never had a moment's problem out of them, just presoak the pucks and let them swell, then just push the seed down in the soil about 1/2" get a spray bottle and make sure they're covered so the humidity doesn't escape

don't think It's available in my local store. Is 6 days natural? Do i soak the soil? Or mist it from time to time? How about the lights? I'm sorry for all the questions.

I covered the pots with plates to keep humidity going. brought the pots next to the heater...
hope it works

Yes, the HPS/MH floodlights will work. I have 2 150W HPS floodlights that I found from an amazing random deal on Amazon.com, they have worked wonderfully.

As far as your seed concerns, some will take longer to germinate. It can be anywhere from 1 day to 10 days. The method I use is to take a plate and place 3 soaked paper towels on it. Carefully place your seeds on the paper towels and cover them with another think layer of paper towels. Place the plate somewhere dark; I use a desk drawer. Check daily and add water when necessary. Good luck!

anytime i germinate seeds i just use a paper towel, fold it in half, put my seeds inside, then put the paper towel inside a ziploc baggy and pour until there's a very small amount of water left that hasn't been sucked up by the paper towel. fold a piece of aluminum foil around the baggy and let it sit on my dvd player or satellite box. keeps em just warm enough and dark enough to pop out in less than 48 hours.

FYI next time u germinate u may want to try barely roughing up the edge of the seeds with a piece of sand paper.

I remember reading a DIY thing somewhere a while back.

Basically get some soft sandpaper/emery cloth cut it down to fit in a tube, so it wraps all the way around the inside.

(like the PH tester tubes)

Pop your seeds in, cap it and give it a gentle shake for about ten seconds.

This essentially buffs it, making the shell of the seeds thinner, making it easier for the seed to pop when it grows.

This won't help if your seeds are immature/won't sprout in the first place.

Hope this gives you some help.

just found out that one of them was actually growing under soil. I just took the soil out of the pot and found a 2 inch plant, in the soil. How deep should I place germinated seeds and Im guessing that the root should be pointing downwards, am I correct?

this has worked for me 6 out of 6 times.. wet a paper towel place your seeds and wrap your wet paper towel with a dry paper towel (make a ball), fill a glass with about .5 ounce ( half ounce) of water and just place your paper towels inside the glass.. make sure to put your paper towel ball right above the water NOT ON THE WATER JUST ABOVE! then simply put the glass under a kitchen sink or some dark place and make sure no light gets near the glass.. just leave it in the dark place for 3 days, when u go check after 3 days you'll see some nicee hug roots :)

best way I found is paper towel, wet, mist a ziplock bag, close it, wrap it in aluminum foil. It worked 3/3 seeds just germed.
