The only strains worth talking about currently are the Blackjack and Larry OG. Both strains are under the same conditions in same location and only a couple days' apart.
- - - Daytime 74-76F, night time 68-70F, RH 65%.
- - - 3x7ft e&f table, currently manually flooding from 55gal res as needed since plants aren't big enough to be drinking daily on the timer.
- - - Being fed General Hydroponics trio + Floralicious + CalMag, bennies = Botanicare's Rhizoblast + Hydroguard also Recharge once per week and Hormex for transplanting only.
Week 1 TDS = 575ppm, which includes tap water base of around 280ppm, which I know from the city water report is made up of bicarbonate, calcium carbonate, sodium in that order, with noticeable amounts of Ca, Mg, silica and a touch of K.
Vegging week 2 nutes to follow tomorrow as they have just been mixed and I like them to sit and oxy overnight. Aiming for around 700ppm.
All seeds were popped in Root Riot plugs and are vegging in 6x6x4 Pargro Quick Drain blocks sitting on rubber grommets to aid drainage & air pruning.
I am keeping daily paper grow logs for all strains, documenting canopy, room and exterior temps & humidity, pH & TDS of any feed/water given, and any notes on growth etc. This admin is laborious but essential if i'm going to bounce from any mistakes or spot any patterns worth responding to in terms of plant traits.
BlackJack by Sweet Seeds (from Midweek Song) - x14 fems germinated 6 Aug, 12 made it to veg with 2 sprouts dying off before rooting. Currently at day 17 since germination. I had wanted to move to veg sooner as the roots were exploding at day 6, but I was waiting on my cob lighting kits to arrive from Timer Grow Lights (highly recommended, btw) and so they remained in nursery until day 9 or 10. Future runs will move as soon as several roots are showing from the plug.
Pic below shows all 12 plants at day 17 / entering 2nd week of veg. Plants are numbered 1-9 as you read them left to right, top to bottom:
Positive third leaf set growth on most except #1 which looks stunted and first leaf sets are badly damaged - unsure of cause. Some paling of lower leaves and leaf tips on others, which I assume is the plant moving mobile nutes to new growth, and which is why i'm feeling like that second higher feed is in demand here. Also I know CaMg def is possible given the neutral medium, so today a light foliar feed of dissolved epsom salts was applied.
No roots have yet been seen emerging from the base of the block, and i'd like to encourage new roots to seek moisture instead of pampering however it is difficult to gauge how dry to let these Pargro blocks go before feeding as they remain heavy for several days without watering.
Larry OG by Cali Connection - x12 fems germinated 4 Aug, only 9 made it to veg after several seeds didn't pop at all. Currently at day 19 since germination. Similarly abundant root growth was seen around day 7, with multiple furry fibrous strands poking from the plug, and they could have done with moving over sooner.
Pic below shows all 9 plants at day 19 / entering 2nd week of veg. Plants are also numbered as you read them left to right, top to bottom.
Decent growth coming through on third leaf sets on all plants, but again some leaf paling especially between veins on lower leaves possibly indicating CaMg def or something similar. #2, 4 and 9 lower leaves look particularly poor, also with some light blotching. Week 2 feed is also due tomorrow - table floods at 8am lights on.
The Larry has been a little more temperamental in growth patterns - coming in bursts rather than gradual - and some proved quite leggy at first (#1, 2 & 4 in particular) despite adequate light and tight noding. No new stretch in the past 4-5 days. and others are very short stacked.
