alright I was talking with some friends, and I smoke my weed so slowly, that I have jars now that are curring for 10 months now, and some that is over a year old, the 10 month weed is fantastic tonight,
what I want to know from those who have done it,,
How long does weed last when stored in curring jars?
Does it act like fine wine,, does it get better with years of storage?,,
or does it peak? and then go down hill
Thanks for the help

I have some almost 3yr old flowers vac sealed in a mason jar. Flavor is still there, potency not so much. Was my prized Kyle kushman strawberry n cream

Longest I've had any stored was two years. Vac sealed mason jars protected from light and big temp swings, with really very little loss of quality.

@RM3 actually had some tested in a jar and sitting out in the open in light. The outcome is surprising.

Can you fill us in on the results rm3?
Not a jar, it was a bud I left sit out on my coffee table for a month that was tested before and after it went from 25% to 22%

as for storage, I've got over 25 strains in jars, some have been jarred for over 3 years, none have lost potency. The smoke becomes smoother, the taste become refined or mellow perhaps is a better word

But I dry and cure way different from the way that is taught in forums, my way causes the buds to oozze resin that then dries and seals in all the yummy goodness. You can see it in this pic of a Blue Dream bud that has been jarred for several years. check the preserved white hairs in the upper right corner 8)

@Tim Fox ...I find that IF I vacuum seal the Mason jars with a Boveda 62 inside, then I can maintain a great deal of the flavor and potency for a long time...maybe years...Thing is....I usually only grow enough each run to last me a year. After that, I will have a new harvest ready to replace the old stash.

I believe it's key to vacuum seal the jars, though. Just putting them in a jar for a long time won't work nearly as well. I've been able to maintain the smell, flavor and potency throughout the year this way. I just use a small hand held Pack-mate sealer along with a Food Saver jar adapter....works great!

I also was knocking around the idea of taking a tiny sliver of dry ice and putting it in the bottom of the jar with the weed and then vacuum sealing that jar, allowing the dry ice to sublimate inside -filling the space with CO2...But it might take a few trials and errors to get the amount of dry ice jusssst right...Otherwise, there might be a danger of the jar exploding or the lid blowing off from the internal pressure...I'm thinking something the size of a fingernail clipping maybe. I haven't tried it yet, though...

All ya gotta do is huff in the jar (think huffing on glass so you can write in the frost) each time you open & close it. We exhale CO2 so the huff displaces O2 in the jar and we have a tad bit of moisture in our breath. Been doin this for a lot of years, never used bovida

Does huffing produce a higher RH than regular exhaling? What if you have a cold, are you creating a bio threat for the next guy that smokes it? What if phlem gets on the buds? LOL - interesting tip, I get about two years out of my jars and I don't do anything but seal them up and store them in dark cool space. I'm usually done with stuff after a year so it doesn't matter much to me if it doesn't last forever.

I would assume it would be all smoked before thinking long term.

In any case, the potency does go down after time and it doesn't improve like a fine wine.
