Please help.... Purple stems

Hi here is the issue

I have my grow in a commercial building I use a TALL BOY to filter the water. My stems of my plants are purple. It's not a cold issue as my room is 80°. I did a test and took cuttings to my home to clone. In 2 days the purple went away using my house water. I do not know what needs to be added to the water when using a TALL BOY.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

What is the lights out temp? Have to tried to use the water unfiltered? Can you get a water test?

And we need all the other info about your grow and pictures to really help.

Purple stems usually mean cold roots. Or wet overwatered pot. Or a phosphorous deficiency which is isually caused by overwatering anyway.

But I don't know enough details.

you need to add cal/mag, purple stems are also caused from a deficiency in these. using r/o water removes those from water. if you are using a good nutrient, it should have enough of those elements to not have to add additional cal/mag

Sure suggest cal mag without any water or medium details. Purple stems are neither caused by calcium deficit or magnesium. They are caused by overwatering and lockout.

And tall boys are pre filters. Not reverse osmosis. Just carbon.

It's never a bad thing to know the ph of the water you are using. As alluded to above, the wrong ph range can keep nutrients which might be present from easily being absorbed. Phosphorus uptake has a ph sweet spot and is finicky when you're outside the range.

Some people try foliar spraying one or two plants to see how they respond, before trying something new on all their plants.

Maybe this chart could be useful to you. Good luck.

More important than the ph is the alkalinity of the water. It is what will pull your ph out of range. My new house has more alkyline well water than my old one and the nutes I was using there don't work as well here.

Something else to think about regarding water.

Hi guys in response to your questions.

Lights out temp are 67-69
Lights on 82-84 (I use co2) I use 2 mini splits for my room. One goes off at lights out the other drops temp to 67

Yes I have tried unfiltered water. It was like pouring straight chlorine in. Burned my plants fast. And ph jumped like crazy.

I'm sorry I forgot to add I'm using cal/mag with every watering

I use fox farm for my nutes

My ph after nutes and cal/mag is 6.4-6.8
I use 15gal pots using promix and earthworm casings.
My room is 20x12
9 - 1k lights
SEALED Room
I water every 2 days. I've waited till day 3 but my plants wilted. I remove all run off water after feeding.
My humidity is consistent 46% lights on and off

Here's a few pics taken today and one of the full size. Purple in my veg. Clones taken and put at my house using town water the purple gone almost over night. I do not use a tall boy at home.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Some genetics have more purple then others. Any other signs of damage?

Very true but not this strain. It will only purple if I drop my ac really low. No other signs of damage. The purple went away when I moved from tall boy filtered water to no tall ball filtered water

Have you tried filtering with the tall boy and not adding cal mag? The tall boy doesn't take everything out of the water.

It looks like the calcium is getting locked up and the larger calcium particles would block uptake of the potassium which causes the purpling.

Also look over fed a bit. Little dark green and droopy leaves.

Maybe do a little extra fresh water to wash out the medium a bit and then put a lighter nute solution back in.

I wish I knew what was in the water.

yeah, that's WAY more cal mag than I ever used. I don't use it anymore, I up my nutes a little and that makes up for me using r/o water.
I also don't ph anymore. the ph should change as the soil dries.

So what I've done when I hit week 3 of flower is to increase my nutes which corrected or adjusted the problem. It just really bugs me that I cannot clone with this water.

If I take the run off water from my mini splits can I use that water to clone with?

Try mixing the filtered water half and half with the unfiltered. You are looking for .3 to .4 EC. Higher than that may need more compensation.
