It's not enough, at least not for the whole country. We already have $10 minimum wage in California and it is absolutely not enough to cover the cost of living in many/most parts of the state. In San Francisco, median rental cost for a 1 bedroom house is $3,560 per month. Working a $10 minimum wage, that would mean 89 hour weeks just to pay rent, assuming no other expenses. Even "cheap" parts of the state, like Fresno, you're looking at around $800 for a 1 bedroom, which means that if you're working 40 hour weeks, fully 50% of your monthly salary goes to rent before additional expenses. Then you got like electricity, gas, water, trash collection, tv, internet, etc, easily an additional $300-400/month. That leaves you around $400, about $13 a day, to divide up between food and whatever else you want/need to spend money on. And all that is assuming that you are only providing for yourself, and don't have any children which come with a whole set of expenses.

If you want to justify not raising the Federal minimum wage, you need to defend your position with logical arguments, not 'truthy' talking points from your masters at faux spews.

That's LOGICAL argument, based on FACTS, not 'feelings' or 'beliefs'. Yes, this is a test, sadly one most conservatives can't pass. Even those in my own family.

Realistically tho, is an extra 40 bucks a week going to make any difference?

Raise the proposed minimum wage an extra dollar to 11 and people are making 80 a week extra...Now that's some additional spending power.

If you were to live in a big city an extra $40 is a blessing it just might pay for for your daily commute to work...if you're lucky. In NY the subway fair will rise to $3, 1 way or pay your lunch.

You must live in small town USA talking the way you do, city life is an everyday struggle (Rat race). $15 minimum wage is scraping by in ANY big city.

Just using basic math tells you that city life is a struggle, $11 bucks an hour is a whopping $22,880 before taxes a shit hole apartment can run you $1,200 @ month, that's $14,400 a year and that assumes you work a 40 hour work week. Most folks are currently making $9.75 @ hour working 35 hours $341.20 x 52 weeks another whopper of $17,740 before taxes and your rent is $14,400 @ year. You Republicans don't give a shit about the struggling families trying to make ends meet maybe if a living wage was paid you wouldn't have Eric Garner who was killed by Police in NYC (Staten Island) instead of being with his family, for selling "loosies" for extra cash.

Eric Garner wasn't killed for selling loosies. He was killed for being a fat blob with a weak heart who wasn't paying NYC taxes on the orders of a Democrat mayor.

He may have had a weak heart, many folks do, but being put into an illegal choke hold caused the heart attack.

They also cause unintended consequences which harm the people they purport to help.
