LED Noob Looking For Input

I have researched and plan to do plenty more. But I'm looking for a little input and direction from you gurus.

Currently I run 2 600's in flower. I am looking to save on utilities and not overload what little available amps I have to work with.

I want to build my own cree cxb3590 fixture to perform the same and ideally better than what I am doing now. From what I have read/seen I will be at am advantage because the photon/heat will be way better with cob and at a lower wattage.

So in the meantime while I research more I am looking for input/analysis of my thought process.

16- cxb3590 @ 3500k
2- MW HLG-185H-C700A
16- 150MM pin heatsinks
2-dimmers

And all the other requisite hardware to make 2 fixtures. I run 2 3x3 flood trays and would have one over each tray. I want efficiency and longevity but want performance. Is this overkill? I haven't crunched all the numbers for consumption etc... yet. I am just curious if i am on the right track for what I want to do. I have costed it at around 1k but ideally want to keep it a lot less than that.

I was basing that info off of a growmau5 vid where he mentions it will run 8cobs @fv36. Im fine with 7. I dont know if I need the dimming, but I like options.

Yeah. I have considered that for a few reasons. Cost, and the fact that as technology improves, i may want to upgrade and if I run all those leds the cost would make me less inclined to drop the coin to upgrade. I battle heat sometimes so the photon/heat advantage should help with more cobs getting pushed less. I am sure my plans will evolve as I learn more. But I dont have the luxury of time because I just dont have the amps to continue my setuo as it stands. Thankfully cooler weather is coming but I have wanted to make the switch for a while, and now finally have the wifes blessing do to a potential fire scare.

So my new thought is an HLG-240H-C700B. I can run 10 CXB3590's per driver. I have 18 FT/2 to cover and that would get me close to the 30watts per FT/2 that I see is preferred by some. If I run 16 CXB's it comes in at 22.66 W/ FT/2. Is that enough? Or should I do 20? I am leaning towards 20 as its only another $140 or so for lights and heat sinks.

If you're running at only 700mA, you could save some $ and use 120mm pin sinks. 700mA is only 25 watts.

You should stick to 16, but just use 2x hlg240h-c1400b and run at 50,watts but use the 150mm sinks just get the "B" version drivers and you can dim them if you ever want to. But if you use 700mA, that's as bright as you can go. I'd reccomend the ability to go brighter. You'll BE a LOT HAPPIER.

Thanks! I actually was planning on going wit 120mm sinks. I want the most efficiency. photons vs heat. so the 700ma seemed better. I would need 240h-c1400b drivers to run 16. Am I wrong?

* actually I would need 4 drivers as max volts is 179 per.

If I do that (3 x 240-1400 and 150mm sinks) it is almost a wash price wise, about $100 less out the gate. It would give me a lot more watts per FT/2 for sure. I am just wondering efficiency/utility cost and if that extra 16 watts per FT/2 would offset that utilities cost in yield

*Initial cost would basically be a wash going the 1400ma route due to the need to buy 2 more drivers for 4 total.

Actually I couldnt really do 4 of the 240s. If I had to run 4 I would be better off going with the 185H due to less watts. I have too much shit running on a 15A breaker and need to keep consumption as low as possible. Lack of amps sucks.

at 1400mA they are 56% on paper.
Using the cob calculator from the thread "cob calculator" you can download it from the guys signature. It will tell you the utility costs once you input the driver efficiency and your kwh charges.
I'm afraid I have to dash off to work so just use the search bar to find the thread.

edit @700mA the forward voltage is 32.72 per cob

I downloaded it but cant get it to open. I am leaning towards 700ma. I want/ need efficiency. Of course GPW is nice too! 44w per FT/2 is alot nicer than 28.66 too. I just wonder how big a difference in yield that would make.

I am considering putting up a wall of panda film in my flower room to be able to more efficiently utilize the light. my room is 8x12 but i use 2 3x3 trays so really I am only using 18 FT/2 and trapping more light should help

I downloaded the newest java as i read that can be an issue. it saves as a RAR and I have tried the suggestions. It's frustrating! Because it it exactly what I need.

Theres a little arrow next to each of those things that brings a drop down menu up. If there isn't then possibly update your JAVA

If your going with pin heat sinks then you can ignore the heat sink profile
