So i learned alot about oldschool varieties that im told were lightyears better tasting than the cavendish steain of banana we enjoy today. Back in the what 50-60's a disease called panama disease wiped out oldschool banana strains...

What we see today is the cavendish variety that apprentley withstood the panama disease
Now they are under threat as well all over the world...

We need to grow our own large scale american bananas i say.

Its a discussion we have in my gardening class at university of vermont. Next semester master composter course i missed last yr.
If this new disease wiped out these cavandish variety we currently use im scared of not having access to good banana's honestly. To awenser your question i was told in the 30-40s the orig disease wiped out the entire oldschool banana varieties. Panama disease did.

Oh, im just thinking of some heirloom banana or something. Master composters?!?! Woohoo haha

But in all seriousness, i gotta find out if these cavandish banana are propigated frok cutting or seed. If it's cutting then there's the reason disease wipes this kind of thing out.
