Thanks for the info guys! No hard feelings to the cob and led guys. I'm going t5 4 bulb fixture. It's easy and just seems more reliable to me. Having said that I still maintain a high intrest in leds and will be following yalls grows @Olive Drab Green. I'm interested to see how the 2 vipars work out.

Any suggestions on bulbs: brands watts and all that jazz. Are they like the cfls in the regard that they have to be fairly close to the canopy? And what would be more effective: a separate veg/flower bulb set or just one mix between the 4 for both stages?

I say we have a TED talk on Riu online interactions by stoners lmao.
Definitely. I was just considering writing a skit where a few of us represented by students with our avatars taped over their faces are in a college class room at "RIU."

@RM3 's the professor. @.Pinworm. throws something at someone, @sunni walks in and pulls him out by the ear. He later returns. @UncleBuck's avatar is on an African American chick's body and she's Columbine-ing @zeddd. I can't stop talking, so @Gary Goodson chugs a beer and punches me in the face and RM3 asks me to be quiet at the same time @sunni pokes her head in the door and yells the same thing. @cannabineer 's trying to be nice and use ASL to translate for @Alienwidow who's not even in his body. @Tyler Durden ponders what's going on for like, two seconds, then is like "Fuck it, too cool for school." @Unclebaldrick and @bu$hleaguer are cannibalizing the dessicated body of some new guy along with @Singlemalt & @srh88. @abe supercro 's just shaking his head. Police come in dressed as @Dankonomics_genetics .

The only concern is that most T5 fixtures (and regular florescent for that matter) are actually 50 to 52 inches long. So you have to have a little more than 4 feet to use the 4 foot bulb.

I use the visual ratings, not the mathematical ones. A 2000k HPS actually looks like a 4000K MH lamp. I always convert everything to how it looks in MH ratings. That's just an old habit going back 30 years.

I also have a very old pulse start light fixture. The 16,000 lumen bulbs are 30 dollars. I can get 14,400 lumen bulbs for 9 dollars. Sort of a no brainer for me.
2100k looks white to you?

Gawd I hate the Global Star line (They hate me back) and they gave me a 300 with a heavy, heavy discount... It makes an OK clone light but I can't get all the clones under it and they are in 3-inch pots atm. SO I smashed them in many reviews...
Glad it's working out for you though.

hehe... I think that's really the thing with inexpensive... nowadays that mostly means cheap, which at the very least means unreliable. I def still have complaints, like the area coverage on bloom (like 1.5x2.5? I have to use the full spectrum 300wats to get better coverage), but it had overall good reviews on amazon and was only $78. If It can last me a couple of grows, I can save up for something nicer... so yeah, it's a flip... maybe you get a bad one, maybe it doesn't last... or maybe (and I hope this is me) it works out for a good long while...

ViparSpectra's not much more expensive. $99 for the 300, $149 for the 450. Cheap and quality, for sure.

my 4ft 8 T5 lamp tank of a fixture is retired. replaced by a cob solution.

you're not going to grow anything under two 4ft t5 tubes.

you will veg, albeit slowly and things will look pretty good.

but once you flip, w/o additional lighting, it will get ugly.

just listen for that bit of money $200 there is NO other solution then HPS.

heat from 1 600w hps is nothing. T5 pumping BTU's too ( I know we don't like lumes) 33,000- 40,000 Vs's 600 hps is 90,000-116,000 covert that to PPFD/umols.

people who grow with T5's have specialized-experience and cycles with T5's to produce "good" results. anyone can pick a 600 hps and grow.

TBH, if fucking your gonna do that, get T12's, its still wrong solution for the money.

I don't want anyone to fail, but I hope you post your grow.

Good point but I know I will be able to veg and if Need be I can find an led to supplement in once it's time to flip. Wich is going to be at least 5 weeks for me.

And again I see the hps light pushed but I would have to purchase in line fans and vents. And I'm not too keen on the kind of heat signatures they put off. Eyes on the sky!

Wait, what lights did you plan to use without ventilation?

Don't worry about heat signature, you would need to be venting hot air out of a house at night for visibility and it takes a couple thousand watts just to not look like a heater.

sounds like a good Ideal. red led flowering bulbs are easy to find on E-bay. when my supply of flora suns run out I am thinking about use in bright red (630nm) led strip lights to add red to the spectrum produced by my 6500k veg lights for flowering. nothing wrong with hybrid lights. taking advantage of the best of both worlds.
