I am looking at the LEC 315. I have some 1000 HPS with magnetic ballasts with Hydrofarm reflectors . This kit allows a user to retrofit only HPS system with a LEC conversion with a new digital ballast, bulb and conversion adapter for about $243. The cheapest LEC 315 I have seen is around $380.
The pure LEC has bulb pointing down where conversions has it more conventional horizontal which may be a drawback.

I watched a video and they said the ceramic bulge in the middle of the bulb starts to plasma. Users should be careful with eyes and skin due to IR and UV.
A poster on another forum said he places the LECs really high and the spread is great but that may be the Papillion reflectors that look to butterfly. I wonder what the spread will be using a standard HPS Hydrofarm reflector.

Sweet light but expensive
