ok so I chopped my girl at about 75% cloudy tri dried it at 57% humidity but around 90degree weather for 5 days till outside buds felts dry and jarred them up in pint mason jars about 80% full. Been curing for a week now and still has a fresh cut smell and not that great skunky smell it had precut open jars for a few minutes every 12 hours buds are dried out fell somewhat moist when I open them. Will I get that skunky smell back with more curing or is it gone for good?

Check the jars, do you see any moisture on the glass? Also, when you dump out a jar onto a magazine or paper plate, do the buds clump together and need to be pulled apart? If so, you're still too wet. If they've been jarred while too wet for a week, you're probably getting mold.

You state it was 90 degree weather when you dried, but what was the temperature in the room where you dried? If it was 90 degrees in your drying room, that's too hot for a proper dry. You want a room that'll stay about 65 - 70 degrees and 50 - 60% humidity and be dark as possible.

They do clump together but no signs of mold the grow room was my shop outside. My wife is a super clean freak and wouldn't let me dry inside but can cure inside. No signs of moisture on jar or lids. Should I leave jars open a little while or completely take them out of jars and let them crisp up? I'm new and have tried everything ive read but these 3 jars are the only ones with the smell I have 2 more that are perfect nice skunk smell and nice flavor after a week

Fans only cool humans, they don't cool plants but it's good to have some air movement when drying. If the buds are still clumping together after being in jars for 7 days, I'd be surprised if you don't have some mold by now.

To summarize what you should be looking for when jarring -
  1. Drying - Buds should be dried adequately for a twig to snap when bent.
  2. Buds WILL moisten up when jarred, assuming they aren't dried to dust.
  3. After the first day in the jar, dump them out. If you have to pull the individual buds apart, they need to be dumped in a paper bag for 4 - 8 hours, then back in the jar.
  4. Check again on day 2. Buds should a bit firmer and should separate more easily. Either repeat in paper bag or dump onto paper plate and leave out for a couple hours.
  5. Day 3 - Continue dumping out as necessary if the buds are still soft enough to stick together.
  6. Day 4 or whenever - when you can rotate the jar and the buds separate by themselves without you having to pull them apart, your getting close to 'dry enough'.
  7. Day 5 - 7. You should be able to hear the buds make little 'clinking' sounds and they should separate nicely as you spin the jars around.
  8. Open and check daily, looking and smelling for any sign of moisture or mold.

I posted this on another curing thread and its how i do it (works perfect for me every time and no dumping of trichomes) :


Curing..the simple yet allusive must do.

I agree with those that said it up to the individual grower and their environment. I'm an outside grower so my environment changers..allot..quickly.

My methodish.

Dry in a dark place with some but little airflow (not directed at the buds) for 3 to 10 days depending on the weather and humidity (just guess it a bit). When the outside of the buds feel dry and the stems just bend nicely and "O' so close to snapping- but doesn't = time to cure. Its best to be a little early for a great cure than late IMO.

Grab a few glass air tight jars or a (home brewers air tight wort holder for a few ozzies).
1/2 to 3/4 fill em, loosely (how i like my women by the way..). Place lid on.

leave lid on for 1/2 day..and off for 1/2 a day repeat this for a few days or a week..whatever.. (u dont need to set alarms and stuff...just roughly)

After a few days or a weekish go 1 day on and one day off for few days or a weekish. Feel it before and after..every time. When it starts to go back into the jar and the outside of the bud is a little dry...time for,

Lid on for 2 days and off for 1/2 a day. for a week or two. When the bud is dry outside when taking the lid off then go,

Lid on for a week and off for one day for a couple of weeks.

And then just leave the lid on or whatever you FEEL is best.

Give it 2- 3 months all up and ur good to go. Dank bud.


Curing is not hard as long as you dont try to dry it to fast. Curing is the art, not science, of drying slowly. If your getting mold then ur lazier than me and/or live in the tropics.


Must do's;
Feel it every time your taking lid off or putting lid on. Smell it every time. Become the herb. Keep Jars in a dark spot.

I have brown bagged mine - up to 5 days ... With good results .
I keep them rolled at top and " roll " contents gently to break up any clumping and to further aerate. Brown bags still breathe and provide some light protection.

If it was me .... I would bag them and place them in a cool dark place as to slow down rapid drying. Hard to say what a week would do .

I also like the brown paper bag method ...but I start my cure process wetter before letting the stem snap ...il bag it and at first dump it out onto a cardboard covered table let it breath before rebagging after a few days of this I go to jars and burping ....I used to use jars only but I start with bags now because there easier to dump and spread bud out for breathing ....especially large harvests .....good luck ....curing/drying is the most important part IMO Harvests are won and lost in this phase

Thanks for advice man.I'll use this method for my next grow. Harvest day will be on same day when I drive away for a week. So I was thinking about to trim off fan leaves and just hang my ladies up on basement, and let them dry for a week, wat you think?
