Mini split ac blower wheel crud

Has anyone else noticed the gunk build up on the blower wheels these Mitsubishi units. Not to much info on it. I figured it out when I was having sinus issues and headaches from unit in my house. Figured it was something more than a dirty filter so looked in there and was like holy shit. For those who run mini splits keep and eye on the crud that builds up on blower wheel, its probably a pain to take a part and clean but I'm doing it today.

I sprayed mold spray in mine, while turned off of course. Spraying bleach in would probably be good. I just don't like the smell. I find that pure bleach works really well on mold though, like on walls. It's not that great diluted but straight it actually bleaches out the blackness of the mold. Let it dry a while before turning it back on though. Don't want bleach or mold spray flying out.

My AC guy told me about that mold. He gave me a few cans of spray that I spray into the head. It keeps everything clean. Once a month does it. It's for keeping the parts in the head clean

thanks for the tip . thinking could spray a silicone spray lubricant it will stick to it dry up and still be there mold will not survive on it . the lube would last for ever . they make food grade silicone spray lubricant . bleach would just kill on contact it will keep coming back . take apart and spay this lube on it . I bet some company use it can spray it on any thing wont hurt it .

You're talking about spraying the blower wheel with beach? or hitting the coils with bleach? Its weird the one in my bedroom has this funky smell its hard to describe like a mixture of dirt, plastic and metal. I just looked up at the blower wheel and the things completely clean spot free while the one in my other room is covered in nasty shit. What could be causing the funk smell?

Get some coil cleaner and spray your coils down. I think you're getting dust and dirt from your coils on the wheel.

Is there water pooled inside it? A lot of water condenses on the coils. But I meant spray as much as possible, coils and wheel. Might be able to sit it on its back and pour something in there and swish it around. Also peroxide might work. Less smelly than bleach. I never tried it myself. If there's gunk you should probably try to keep the air filtered in the room with a hepa air purifier.

They have coil cleaner guys. As for the blower wheel don't spray anything on it or you'll just have more shit on it :(. Yup it's a bitch to clean them. Small bottle brush and vacuum once you remove the cover works but it's a pain. Most have a coil dry mode now that helps with removing moisture off the coil after cycle ends, this helps with the wet sock smell.

Oh and I rinse the coil off using a long neck watering jug and pour it slowly along the top of the coil removing the cleaner as I find the smell kind of lemony lol.

So I removed the plastic head casing of the mr slim, loosened the coil removed the blower wheel cleaned it with rubbing alcohol and apple vinegar then rinsed, cleaned behind it. Washed off the plastic head casing and sprayed a shit ton of coil cleaner on the coil and rinsed it with water. Cleaning these things are a pain in the ass. Its crazy there is not to much info about this on the web. People are probably just filling their room with musty mini split ac. I feel the selling points of mini splits is the unit being maintenance free which is not the case.

I know huh ^^^^^, my guys will actually take them off the wall if their bad enough and bring them to the shop and use air to blow them out

That's the thing with ductless and everything else now for that matter. The blower should be the easier of components to access. Try changing a board on a Fujitsu, it has to go in upside down with 20 wire connections :(.

This the thing about mini splits!

One of my growing buddies is a HAVAC man. He has a mini split and says you HAVE to keep it clean for effectiveness, AND to prevent early breakdowns - MONTHLY! Don't just "spray" it out - clean it out!

Well the issue is getting at it to clean it :(, but yup, cleaning the filter (which would let your cat through) is a good start. My unit is 10 years old and never shuts off, the blower has been cleaned once but filters and coil are cleaned quite often .... Well that's a lie lol....not to often, no time, fixing other people's lol.

Somebody could make a bundle by designing an AC that's easily disassembled for cleaning.
That seems to be a low priority when they design this stuff, get the P Eng's out there and have them fix em in the field would be an eye opener. Customers are like WTF, two-three hours to clean my AC, we're at $125 an hour lol.
