Topping

Too many variables really to answer this really. Depends on grow technique, what kind of plant you are growing really. Generally I'd say any time after 3 or 4 nodes, but like I said that doesn't always apply. It also really kind of depends on what your motivation is.

I have topped as early as 6 days after seedlings break soil. It is all a matter of when the grower decides he/she wants to start manipulating. BTW...just so we're clear I am not suggesting you top your grow at 6 days.

I've done it so many times now got it down to a science: wait until the 5th set of nodes then top/FIM. You'll get the first set of baby leaves from seed; those don't even count because they die off. Then you'll get your first set of true leaves; those don't count either. Then you get your first set of true nodes that's one...then the very next pair of vertical branches is 2....keep waiting until you can see 4 sets of nodes. When the 5th set emerges like a set of praying hands that's a good time to top which will predictably split the main cola into 2...do it again a couple weeks later to get 4 colas. If you allow the bottom branches to become the same height as the main colas they will also become new colas; it's all about making the canopy even to keep the buds a uniform size. If you FIM you'll get 3-5 tops in one shot which is my personal preference especially if you plan to scrog. Keep on topping all those tops to achieve desired bushiness.

Yes I agree with you....you shouldn't do it until it's reached its 5th.

At what point in the plants life is it best to top them for best results? Thanks
After about 2 weeks of veg I top my plants mate. I'm more into supercropping though on account of its much more forgiving to the plant . Now I know everyone tops and thats their thing so I why can't I have my own thing? My mates laughed at super cropping but then they come over and look at my girls and see 10 top and are in awe by it. Now before you say only 10 tops stoney? I'll have you know that I only vegged for 2 and a half weeks because I need to finish these plants up before I go on vacation and theirs no way I coulda done that with topping ya know? Woulda needed a much longer veg.
