Figure out how that lobby got so fucking influencial and there's your answer.
there are other gun lobbies too. even more extremist ones. these gun nuts are orwellian in their very nature. they are sickening fucks.

and even some very decent people seem to parrot them nonetheless.

but mostly, just big old bags of shit repeat and defend NRA propaganda.

Gotta ban lorries and alligators, too, if we want to be safe. Point being with the lorry thing: if they want you dead and have no gun, they will get really fucking creative.

80-100 people dead, 200+ wounded? They got a higher body count with a truck than any attacks with a gun. Know what stopped the driver? Bullets.

There will always be a mind driven to kill. You should have a way of protecting yourself, just in case. Because you can't close Pandora's box. Guns are here and you can't erase the knowledge we have acquired to build them. Anyone intent on finding a way to kill you will kill you if you cannot repel their offensive.

Do you suppose gun bans in other countries assisted with suicide rates? Because they didn't.
what does american gun ownership have to do with international suicide rates? suicidiation is caused by many things, but suicide itself is only guaranteed by one tool.

More method than a single tool. My cousin hung himself in '10 a day after I talked to him shortly after coming home from Afghanistan. So, method more than tool, and driven mind more than method.

your brother had likely committed some crime before in his life, thus he deserved to die.

Cousin* and I think I get what you're trying to say, but maybe not. In any case, I think we both know that no one deserves to die for mistakes they may have made in life. Nor for the mistakes of others.
nonsense.

if you, your brother, your cousin, or anyone else in your life has made a mistake, it is perfectly alright if the police kill them.

but only if they are black.

Black. White. Red. Moreno. Doesn't matter. No one. Unless it's opposite day, then it's everyone.

Let me guess. A bunch of open carry, ten gallon hat wearing, french rednecks in pointy boots?
Whoa, now. That's definitely not my crowd. But, no, the police. Because no one else had a gun to shoot the driver in the truck. And clearly, shooting him worked. It shouldn't take a designated shooter to save your life.

Not too surprising, they are a well-funded single-issue pressure group. Those are effective - it was how we got Prohibition.

The real story here is how the organization was taken over by a cabal that does not represent their constituent's views.

For the record, I sent back my membership card before Bush the Elder did.

I understand what you're saying (in theory). I just don't wanna live ANYWHERE where you're just allowed to walk around with a cannon strapped to your back. I'll just take my chances with out of control terrorist trucks. The odds are in my favor.
Nothing wrong with that, either. It's about personal beliefs and such. You aren't wrong, and I'm not necessarily right. I wish we didn't have to worry about shit like this, but every year, the World is just getting closer and closer to completely turning to shit.
