Ro/Di to use Di or not?

i have a 5 stage spectra pure ro/di unit. I have been looking around for solid info on if the Di filters mess with your plants in a negative way ? Some people have said that the resin is a salt and it is bad for plants . I also know that is takes my ph down to like 5.7 when ro water should be close to 7 . The site that my system came from says that Di is not safe for human consumption so I would think also not safe for plants that are consumed by humans ?

I wasn't around for the conversation and I could not find a thread about it so I made one . I have a well and a water softener before my ro/di unit. I have like 5-10 ppm after the ro and because I have a water softener the 5-10 ppm is sodium which is not good for plants . This is the reason why I have the Di as it brings my ppm to 0 . But if it causes any problems with plants is what I'm trying to figure out ? Why would it waste money ?

It could be whats messing your plants up. My well water is 180 ppm and and I don't mess with it. It grows plants just fine.

Yeah I have well water too that's ran through a water softener. Never had issues or problems, ever. My water is pretty hard at 250-300 ppm. You should use nutes that are made specifically for hard water.

I would throw that filter in the garbage.

You water your plants with water from the softener ? Do you use an ro unit ? My water runs about the same 280 ppm and that's after I filter it through a sediment and carbon filter . Without the ro attached .

Yeah I just use water straight from the tap. No r/o filters just straight well water.

I can show you pictures of my flowers and you can decide if water softener salt is bad for the plants. I've been using softened well water for years and never had problems from using it.

You're going to have to use nutrients specifically made for hard water though.

I don't use nutes. I grow organic water and teas only .

I use the ro because the rev says to use pure water sources with his soil . No well or tap water for tlo . That is what he said so I do it . Idk I'm willing to give it a try or maybe using ro water and then just add 1/4 of the well water back in ??

I would imagine you'd be defeating the purpose of using filtered water if you start adding tap water to it.

Probably should just strictly use only one water source.

Well then I will just undo the Di portion of my ro system and run just ro . See how my plants react to that . Death to Di maybe

Right on man, did you say your r/o water was running around 5.8 ph? Since you're in soil, I believe you should keep your ph up around 7.0, I could be wrong though, just thought that's what I've read before. I know growers outlet and horizen hydroponic sells organic ph buffers if your trying to keep everything all organics.

Yes after the Di it goes down to 5.8 . I'm hoping that changes when I stop using that part of it. I just ordered new filters for my system .

250-300 ppm of sodium in your water with no adverse effects ? Wow . What type of salt do you use ? That would be ideal for me

These are plants not tropical fish, but reefer forums seem to have the most knowledgeable people.

The ph buffering of low ppm water is super low. Don't sweat it.
