So I decided to transplant my ladies today into 5 gallon pots as I figured they would be getting pretty root bound as they have been In a 1 gallon potter for over a month. Started pulling my plants and realized that none of the roots ever even grew into the KIND soil at all. They sat on top of it but never grew down into it like the website says it will ?? Wtf ? This shit was expensive ? I knew that my plants were growing extremely slow and are not very thick . I am super bummed and really don't know why the plants didn't grow down into the soil ?? I still transplanted them into the 5 gallon pots and used the KIND soil again as I bought enough of it to run 10 plants all the way through but I don't think it is really that good ? I'm not sure how anyone could get good results with this stuff ?? But I will keep it growing for now ! Almost seems like it does not have enough airation to let the roots through ? I just wanted to do what the website for the soil said to do ?? Idk bummed for sure . I lost 2 of my 10 plants because they just burned up and died ?? Not sure why ?
I have a friend that used Kind soil. He said the same thing you did regarding the roots not going down into it as shown on their website. He says he used it as directed and the roots stopped at the Kind soil. ????

Wow that sucks for you..I've ran the kind soil for a couple of grows now and haven't had any problems and my roots always fill the bottom..Not sure why yours didn't..Anyways hope things turn around for you.

When you transplanted into your 1 gallon pot did you break up the roots a little?

No I didn't . But when I transplanted this time I had no choice because only half the pot had roots in it ?

Do you know if he ever finished the grow ? Did it turn out ok ? I'm thinking that this might happen a lot with soil like this ??

You always want to break the roots up a little bit when you transplant. If you have any root spin in the bottom of your pot they might continue to grow this way if you don't break them up. Roots tend to grow in search for food and water. It sounds like they hit the good soil and stopped growing because there's no reason for hem to continue searching for food. I don't think anyone on this site agrees with layering soil. Try mixing a little of that soil with some sort of filler like promix or sunshine and don't layer it.

I agree . The layering thing definitely doesn't seem to be the way to go. Don't get me wrong the plants are growing and most of them are not deficient well not to the point of dieing. I have 4 bags of that soil left so like 20lbs of it . I will mix it in with probably roots original or coco loco as I haven't used promix in over 5 years . I actually have a whole bale of promix sitting in my shed that I never used . Not that I would use it indoors now that it has been outside for a long time. I could be wrong but it seems like the best preammended soil that is around as far as what's already in the mix is Ocean Forest ? It has a lot of good stuff in it.

I would try mixing that 50/50 with bx promix or sunshine on one plant just to see what happens. Too bad phill wont chime in.
