We used to hunt down wild plants in Iowa when I was a kid. They were IMO more sativa "type" with thin leaves. Most of the wild hemp was from the war time movement when Iowa had a hemp plant and grew hemp for Victory, etc. We did find some at the right time, right place, right conditions, and accidently cured it. (long story) but it did get you high. The seeds thought were so thick that there wasn't much left over except leaves and some bud. It worked then but now I wouldn't think of putting that up to my lips. Oh yeah, they would get 12-14 feet tall.
mine eitherIn my particular Iowa town, wild Marijuana does not grow.Because it sucks here.
mine either
but seriously there must be some sort of land race strain that is indigenous to north america. maybe the closest that we could get will be some type of wild mexican strain
Ur right Stoney, it's afghan. Afghan mostly gets lumped in with indica cause it's got really fat leaves. If you put one next to the other they look similar, but the afghan has some seriously wide blades on the fan leaves. I think ur right about the ruderalis too, it's the stuff that grows wild in places like oklahoma-tons of seeds and less than 1% THC. Too bad we got the ditchweed naturally, good thing we have imports!I read some old paper once about there being a fourth type suggested...Sativa, Indica, ruderalis, and this one...I can't remember.....maybe afghan...but anyway, I think ruderalis is indigenous to the US.Figures.

If you check out Mel and Ed's MJ "bible", it talks about 4 pure strains of cannabis-c. sativa, c. indica, c. afghan, and c. ruderalis. Ruderalis is classified as auto-flowering and has THC content of less than 1%-true ditchweed. Most of todays strains are hybrids of two or more varieties, some are pure. Lowrider is an example of a strain that crosses the ruderalis variety for the auto-flowering feature with a more potent strain to get the THC content up. The result is a plant that goes from seed to smoke in 2 months under 20 hours of light per day. I'm pretty sure all the good smoke came here from somewhere else-indicas sativas and afghans originate outside of the USA.ruderalis i think is just a generic term for that type of weed, just like hemp and marijuana are all verisons of the same basic plant. but there must be sometype of smokeable marijuana that is native to the US
