HTG EasyCool 6 vs. Euro Air Cooled Hood

I am trying to find a hood to cool a 400W HPS. The space is going to be 5' (L) x 2' (W) x 6' (H). I was originally going to go with a cool tube from HTG but read that you get better reflectivity from an air cooled hood, so I am trying to decide between HTGSupply's EasyCool 6 ( http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=48150 ) or their Euro Air Cooled Hood which is a little cheaper ( http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=49541 ).

Does anyone have experience with either of these hoods? Which would you guys suggest between these two for my setup? I am planning on running a modded stanley blower to use ducting to the intake on the blower to pull air through the light hood, ducting and then the blower blows it out. I am also considering adding a carbon filter somewhere in the ducting. Is it better to have it setup like filter > Short run of Duct >Hood > Duct > Blower outside box or should I have it Hood > Short run of duct > Filter > Duct > Blower outside box? Or should I not try to put a carbon filter on this line and put it somewhere else instead?

I was wanting to use the stanley to pull air to cool hood and also filter it but if it would be better to just have ducting pull fresh air from outside the box to the hood then from the hood through duct to the blower I can go that way too.

Any help would be very appreciated.

I have a couple easy cool 6's from HTG with 600w HPS in them. I run it Filter>484 CFM vortex>2 Hoods>exhaust. Keeps temps around 78 8" or so off glass. The hood's gaskets arent COMPLETELY sealing in the airflow though. There is a small amount that escapes but would be negligible to anyone not running CO2 imo. That is my experience but I have not used the Euro models. I chose the Easy cool because of the added width in hopes of better light coverage over the Euro.

I don't have any experience with the Euro hood, but I am running two of the EasyCool 6 hoods with 600's in them. I can tell you that they are well made. Mine seals up nicely...after I adjusted the weather stripping. The hinged design makes cleaning quite easy.

LOL. you are me 12 months ago. If youre serious about growing then you should spend the cash and do it right from the get. First of all, scrap the stanley mod(not worth the effort) and buy these: http://www.atlantishydroponics.com/Carbon-Filters-and-Air-Purification/Can-Filter-350-CFM-66-Can-Filter8-Can-Fan-COMBO.asp (free shipping). Instead of the 400 buy the 600 with the easy cool 6" and seal the edges with ducting tape. Buy this : http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=GRHBS03&eq=&Tp=

and put the fan at the top pulling air through the hood then filter at the end. Blow that air somewhere else (attic is perfect). If youre worried about sound use as much rigid ducting as posssible and buy the insulated sleeves to go over it. Dont worry about an intake fan and dont worry about all the negative pressure. Keep a good sized fan blowing directly under your hood at all times. That's it man. That's your room. Wish someone would have broke it down like that for me a year ago. Cheers.

Oh and dont start in big pots. Transplant a few times.

Spend the extra 50 bucks and get a hydro farm daystar or radiant, I just upgraded to the daystar from my extra sun ac hood and I can definately tell the difference in quality.

I'm running two flowering rooms, each with a 600w HPS under a Euro hood from HTG. I absolutely LOVE the hoods!! I have absolutely NO temperature issues at all and the hood always remains cool to touch. ( have a 590cfm 8" in line fan sucking air from both rooms through 6" lines, and blowing it out into the attic, and I have two 4" passive intake ports in each room to allow cool air from under my house (crawlspace) to be drawn in. I was using standard bat-wing reflectors previously, but the Euro's rock. The only con is that it will be a little bit more of a pain to clean the inside of the lense, because you have to unscrew 2 screws and remove a retention rail to slide the glass out, but that's no big deal.

I am cuurently putting together a room pretty much the exact same as this. just curious what size fan you are/plan on running to keep this cool? I'm tryna keep costs down for now if i can.

I have decided to use an inline fan such as the valueline 6" - http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/valueline-inch-435-cfm-centrifugal-inline-fan-p-2260.html or the Active Air 6" - http://www.plantlightinghydroponics.com/active-air-400-cfm-inline-duct-fan-p-2754.html . I will be hooking it up to a controller so I can run it around half power or whatever level is needed to keep temperature under control. I decided to go with a bigger fan and use a controller so that if I ever upgrade to a bigger space in the future it can handle it and also using a stronger fan at a lower setting I have read is much quieter than a less strong fan at a higher setting. I am planning to use a 6" duct booster fan from HTGSupply.com with the DIY Pencil Cup Carbon Scrubber attached. I am going to make a bigger version of this scrubber for the flower room.

This is an ancient post but my cousin fell for those junk HTG hoods about 3 years ago. Wow. They have to be truly the most horrible pieces of shit on the market. Air cooled? Ok. Soon as she bought them i was asking her what the hell did she do. Gaskets fell off. Not sealed at all. Glass in the frame is an accident waiting to happen. Horrible socket design that blocks 60% of the flange hole. Cheesy aluminum insert. I bet none of you are still using these god awful HTG hoods. What a scam. Sorry. This is the truth.

What do you expect? Did she have problems out of the box or was it after using them for awhile? There usually way cheaper than brand name hoods. I'll save a few bucks and hit em with duct tape and weather strip and still be ahead of the game.

Shop around and find less expensive hoods that are 10 times better in quality. Hydrofarm Xtrasun Lumii 6" air cooled hoods maybe? Been trying to tell people about these for a couple years now. 75$ and the quality is top notch.

I won't buy online, so that limits me a bit. That's a smaller hood, imo, I like a wide spread to cover a sog/scrog. I ran a 36x32 and wished I went bigger, so I combined 2 hoods to make 36x44 dual bulb hood. The bigger ones get expensive.

Alot light not being reflected with the cheapo hoods with no aluminum on the flange side walls. Alot too. Like 15 - 20% that growers pay for that the plant doesnt get. Like those cheap Sun System 6" Yield Master Classic hoods that are like 75 $. I used to have a few. Until i bought a light meter. Damn. The aluminum insert is like 85% reflective too. The good ones are 90 or better. Big difference in hoods. Noticeable in yield.
