Lets talk about "Other" COBS !

Omgz. I'll build a fuckin 40 cob light for my 4x4 :P
Ill be doing the same. If all checks out which it seems highly likely.
Even running the 50W COB at .7A for 25W giving 160+ Lumens for 4CAD.
Thats a steal. Will update tomorrow on major datasheets on both the 50 and 100W COB and prices.
I think we should have done this before. I just feel Cree's prices are unjust.

Well, nobody is beating Cree at 1.4 either, sorry.

Cree scales better at lower currents than other makers.

Editing to add, because Imsound a little harsh, that just because you won't beat Cree at any price, doesn't mean it's not worth looking for hidden gems out there.

Try to beat Bridgelux and you'll have an easier time.
Your correct. Cree isnt going to be easy. I dont need to beat them. Just need to come close enough.
Tests and datasheets will only tell, but looks like there are gems out there. Just need to be found.
For the price and output close enough is well worth it to 99% of the diyers here.
If all goes well. Ill buy a boat load of them so people can get them in North America much easier at factory cost.
Or minimum everyone will know where to get them.
All I hope is that this test can come close enough to a CXB. We will see tomorrow. Hope is here.

You talking like buying 1,000's of them for us?? :)

You might want to look at Nichia instead. They can come in under $10, but I haven't looked into them closely enough to know how they run at low currents.

Also see what the bulk discount is on Citizen CLU048-1212. They are quite good, and $12.50 retail.

I'm interested in citizen. I had my eye on these but it looks like they don't get restocked.

https://www.cdiweb.com/PortalProductDetail.aspx?ProdId=585062

They also have mechatronix radials for it.

35w cob 50% eff for $12? $.34/w

What's the cheapest 3590s? $45 for 75w at 50%? $.6/w

3070s? $30 for 50w? $.6/w
Yep, thats the problem. CDI would probably stock more, say the 3500k 80 CRI, if somebody just asked. That would be a good cob for most people.

Yes was thinking 1000 to get the best price for the community if results stack up as I assume they will reasonably.
Will first be testing both 100 and 50W COB to see which is more efficient at different current.
End the slavery that we call Cree.

Ill message them and see what kind of price I can work out and get datasheets directly. Preferably on 3500K

You're gonna want to get all the CCT so people get what they want if you do end up doin it. And also, I'd be safe to say I think most people would want the 100w cobs.. not the 50w.
