What I am thinking on is fem seeds in 6 2 gallon dwc bubblers with a 400 watt mh/hps good idea? would yield be decent? how long could I veg it since it is only a 2 gallon pot? is 12/12 from seed a bad idea?

Thanks in advance.

IMO: Think of gallons like months in anything except DWC. I can tell you for sure that 2 gallon DWC bucket root balls will be choking out air stones and need heavy manicuring if you so choose.

Only time I would 12/12 off the top is in a production style grow with output every 2 weeks to make up for lack of quantity. I would do 3.5 to 7 gal tall buckets if you have the vertical for the 7.

I have done 2 gallon DWC and the roots consumed the entire interior, air stone and all had to cut it out and only took .75 gal to fill or something. Water temps will be warm unless you pipe everything. It becomes kinda absurd how big it gets in there.

I vegged them 3 weeks under LED's so they were short and bushy but root zone was explosive, then put them under HPS/LED for flower.

Looking back that is kinda random sorry.

This is for personal so large amount isn't really needed just enough to atleast hold me off from harvest to harvest. so would you think it would still choke it out on 12/12 from start without vegging any? If so I might just do what I was thinking on making a hdx 17 gallon into 6 site bubbler with 3 5" air stones in it.

If you grow 12/12 from seed, veg will be around 4 weeks and then it'll begin flowering. In 2 gallon buckets, you should get a decent harvest for personal use.

Yeah I (me) would go with the tote set up. Would give more control, downside is more nutes if you use some expensive line.

2 gallon buckets could work for you though, I didn't mention I got a monster harvest out of them... Monster.

Now Cx2H that is what I like to hear monster lol. I figure i will put off doing the tote until I start to get through the learning curve.

Joe thanks for the tip.

any and all information I can get is appreciated I want to be wielding knowledge before I hope into some especially something this expensive to start up.

I for sure would not use a 2 gallon for DWC. If you had some sort of recirculating set up it would be alright (still annoying). I run 5 gallon buckets DWC and after 6 weeks they have roots 3 feet long that coil up to occupy the bottom 3 gallons of the bucket. With the 12/12 thing I would avoid it. I have seen people do it with alright results but really the 18/6 is ideal for vegging plants.

You could just do 1 plant in a 5 gal under that 400w with some training and veg for a month and you'll have an ounce per week spent growing. Since it's just personal use I'm sure an ounce a week is good for ya. And with less buckets it'll be less work and time spent.

I agree as everyones saying, 2 gal is the size your roots will be.

What he said. A 400 should do well with just 1 plant in a small grow area. You would want to make sure it is pretty small so you get the right light intensity. If you don't get potent enough light you end up with a plant full of loose harsh larf. I have a 600 watt going in a 3x4 closet that is crushing it with some clones I got. If you did one plant in a 3x3 space, with the 400 you should get decent smoke as long as you make sure the light is getting as much of the tips as possible. Personally with that 400 I would use it to grow vertically. Weave that plant through a trellis on one side of the bucket so its a wall of plant. That way you are getting max yield for you time.

Righto, all about maximizing that light. Whether it be horizontal or vertical, get all your bud sites even light.

I attach a net to my bucket lid, that way you can still access your res easily.

alrighty 5 gallon dwc scrogged out seems like a good idea. That pic was insane I wont be attempting any time soon.
Here's a link to build an attachable net and a scrog tutorial:

Personally I find great results with topping the main only once and LSTing the other branches down until about week 4 when i add the net at a low height to begin training thru the net ASAP. I flip to 12/12 when i add the net as well so I then take advantage of the flower stretch to train.
