Why dispensary weed SUCKS!

Okay so I'm gonna get straight to the point. All of us know the majority of dispensary weed sucks. This is my hypothesis of why dispensary weed sucks. First of all I think they use too many clones. After you clone a plant so much it starts to lose its quality. Do you know why? Because it is a clone and not the original. People are forgetting the soul element. The original plant had the soul. The clones do not. And to make matters worse the growers seem to be growing in mass amounts at a time, giving little personal attention to the plants. When you clone plants and show them little respect and attention, that's what happens. They give you low quality bud.

Dispensary weed sucks because:

Its airy crab grass, because its
grown hydroponically

Its disease ridden because its grown indoors under poor lighting spectrum, hydroponically.

Its premature because the buds are susceptible to mold via the unnatural hydroponic environment.

Its covered in mold and mold sprays because of the poor knowledge base of hydroponic growers.

It has fake smells applied because its grown in an inert hydroponic medium that can't produce smells.

Its full of other chemicals because it was grown hydroponically.

It tastes bad because it was grown hydroponically with synthetic nitrate based fertilizers.

It has no nutritional value like good soil bud does being cause it's grown hydroponically.

Its dried wrong because hydroponic growers don't have a clue what they are doing, or even what they are looking for in quality.

Its grown from seed because anyone dumb enough to grow hydroponically doesn't grasp the importance of a strain being the exact strain it claims to be, or what makes a strain a strain. The product is homogenized by grow chemicals/additives for consistency between seeds.

Its poorly trimmed because most the weight of hydroponically grown bud is in the Brix+ sugar soaked leaves.

Has nothing to do with "over-cloning". The best smoke is at least off a 2 decade old mother. Clones are what makes a strain a strain. Strain names mean nothing with homogenized hydroponic seed crops.

people usually keep the same mother alive for a long time, so they aren't cloning a clone of a clone of a clone etc

I work in the industry in CO, and I've been in hundreds of grows; almost no one out here is growing hydro at the professional level. And I've seen amazing private hydro gardens that didn't suffer from many of the complaints you list.

The reason dispensary weed sucks is because it's grown for monetary gain, so they have every incentive to do it wrong and make money on the easy short gains. There's little extra money to be made from doing it right, and it takes much more work.

All of the above answers are basically correct but 1 reason above all reasons is because the dispensaries have enough of a demand that the quality matters very little. The very best stuff is being shipped east and to non-legal states, where it can be sold at top dollar- I see it every week! Lower level stuff stays local, where they still sell it at high prices and generally pisses everyone off.

Lastly, everyone thinks they are the world best grower.....that's human nature. But as stated, it takes real skill to do it right on a large scale. Few have the long term knowledge to get it right each and every time.

The amount of sheer ignorance in this thread is astounding.

Dispensaries are not, contrary to popular belief, in it to grow the strongest, knock-you-on-your-ass, mind altering bud. They are regulated in more ways than one in what the can do and how they have to do it.

Consistency is the name of the game. They shoot for the same thing from the same strain every single time, so that no matter who comes in and buys it from whom, it is the same. It's no different than Oxycontin or Valium or any other pharmaceutical drug: they are all engineered to be consistent.

Of course everybody thinks that they and they alone grow the best shit, but the fact of the matter is if you took the Pepsi challenge alongside any licensed dispensary, I'll bet a million bucks I don't have that in a blind test 90% of people would prefer the dispensary's shit to your shit any day of the week and twice on Sunday with very, very few exceptions.

Makes perfect sense..Im in a rural state and everything that is grade A produce- not talking cannabis here, just farm produce, goes inter state or over seas. Its were the money is.

I remember a time when, generally speaking, what the people demanded was a very high quality herb. Im from California, so some issues that others may have were not present here. If someone grew bad weed, it got shipped out. No one would buy it locally. But times changed. Like many have said, the passion to grow great weed is one thing.. but in business passion rarely plays a factor. Time is money, and money is time. Club growers have the incentive to grow faster not better. Now, there are plenty of exceptions and if you're lucky enough to be a regular of a great shop then good for you, and for that shop for doing it right. But its not the norm any more, and the damnedest thing to me is you so very rarely can even find good fucking strains at most dispensaries. Its always the same damned things, in several variants, being sold under a slew of made up names. Do you know how rare it is that I see a well grown White Rhino, or Northern Lights? Its been years.. years!

And that is exactly why I started growing myself. I chose Romulan, because.. fucking old school. I plan on changing my world at least, one grow at a time.

I'm not really following that whole rant on hydro.. am I missing something?

I guess everywhere is different, but I have seen some dispensaries.. The owner is just* making a living and attempting to provide the best quality medicine they can for affordable compassionate pricing. The workers are working very hard to provide the highest quality of medicine possible, and at the same time maintain a certain reasonable production quota. They barely meet demand so there is absolute no time for curing, it is dried and straight out the door. They have problems, they deal with it just like any other large scale facility would, and it's not always the best.

I think the real problem is scalability. I feel that the same ultra-premium quality can not be put out at mass scale compared to smaller scale grows. Once you put $500k, 750k, 1M+ into an operation the focus becomes one of revenue.. where small scale grows receive more care because a caregiver is providing the product directly to someone in need of medicine, so a higher emphasis is put towards good medicine. Plus certain practices that work really well in small scale may not work that great in large scale.
....you wake up and 3 of your 9 plants have mold... $500 loss, what do you do? Toss them, clean up, cut your losses and improve your environment.
.... corporate wakes up, 2500 of their 10,000 plants have mold...$400K+ loss, what do you do? Rush for the strongest, cheapest, most effective cure? Save the bud at the cost of the 100%-clean-medicine?

It's a business set up more worried about having product on the shelves instead of quality

It should be simple economics. Good weed costs more just like Sam Adams and Guiness costs more than Natty lite. It takes more time pampering plants to get good weed. Large scale farms can't spend too much time with each plant like a small grower can. People should expect to pay more for sweet tasting weed.
