That's where he had been! I used to live really close to that prison. I almost worked there (on the healthcare side, not as a CO or anything) but I got a small tour and I changed my mind. My financial aid advisor at the college I went to at the time had also done healthcare there, and she got hit by an inmate and had brain damage from it so she couldn't do nursing anymore.

Yup. She's very good at it but when you talk to her you can tell the difference. I knew her before that incident and now she's stutters a bit and she has a hard time grasping the words she's looking for, but she does know what grants and scholarships and other aid the college has. It's a very small town, the college is tiny, but I would bet most of the students get some kind of financial aid and she's one of only 2 advisors. I think she probably *could* do nursing at a nursing home or something that was kind of monotonous, but it could be that she just doesn't want to after that happened.

Indeed. In a fast-moving job like nursing, where what you say can mean the wrong dose or even drug, aphasia can be a real problem. It is a huge relief for her (I will wager) to have a job where you don't decide life or death right this moment with a word.
