330 CDM for flowering?

i was reading a thread a while back on here talking about the 330 cdm's and I couldn't really come to a consensus on wether they'd be good in flower or not. I've also read a thread on overgrow where the op stated that Phillips introduced a type of glass around their arc's to shield uv...I had an old switchable mag ballast laying around so I bought one to see what was up..

I noticed around the arc their is a coil but around that is a little piece of glass... Is this the glass that catches and shields the uv? I hope not...these things are super bright and I can see way more violet reflections in my Mylar running them which makes me think that glass Might do nothing but hold the coil..

Anyone help a brotha out?

I'd love to get away from the spectrum and heat of hps as its SUCH a waste. Can't really afford the step up to the digital cmh's or Cree type led setups yet and thought this would be a great alternative...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I used to run the philips allstart 330 cmh / cdm. They run on a 400w mag mh or switchable ballast. The pull 400w at the plug. They do very well in flower. The 315 cmh's do much better.

The quartz coating is to protect the bulb incase it shatters for any reason. It's an open reflector rated bulb. The quartz will stay intact. It doesn't block uv. Quartz and borosilicate glass are the only types that allow more uv to pass through.

This is good to hear as these bulbs are only 55$. The fixture is the only hard part, the bulbs are huge...

Can you tell me why the 315's are better? Im guessing because of the 3200 K bulb?

The 330 is an ed37 bulb. The 315 is a t12 bulb and runs on a digital ballast and are more efficient . The 315 produces more photons.


With the 330 you can run any hid fixture. I used to run the basic wing reflectors with the 330's . The wings that cost $30 each.

315W CMH lights aren't much different, it's the ballast running them; CMH/CDM/LEC are all the same thing and need to run at low frequencies to keep the pit from rattling apart. Standard magnetic core ballasts are low frequency, but run a sine wave output. The Philips Advance ballast is a low cost square wave unit the drives these bulbs to output MUCH more light from the same watts, thereby making it much more efficient than similar lights on mags.

Both the 3100K and 4000K lamps will veg and flower well.

Knew it had something to due with efficiency. That's where it all begins.. Thanks man

As Hyroot mentioned above, the 315s produce more photons being their ran more efficiently on a different ballast. But is their a major difference in how many more photons are being pushed?

If it's a substantial amount I'll save my money, and invest in the 315s.

People report the 315 puts out a yield roughly the equivalent of a 450w hps.
Just don't order one from hydro builder I just ordered a second fixture from them and it came with a defective bulb. They sent a replacement bulb which never showed up at my door and they said it was lost or stolen and basically accused me of stealing their bulb, which is bullshit. They finally sent a second bulb, also defective. And their communication was terrible. A bit off topic but yeah..

Yep, and the lamp has a standard mogul base so it will screw into any fixture. I wired mine to a bare bulb vertical socket cordset;

I was just looking on advanced tech. I was reading up a while back that the guy had problems with delivery or processing orders, or something like that..

Can you tell me If he's back in business?.. I'd love to invest in the kits he's selling,Great deal!

How easy was the wiring? In about to change my flower over to 220/240 so I won't have to worry about transformers or anything.

I just bought a phantom 315 cmh for $352 out the door

Same Philips bulb.

There's an upgrade to any fixture set up for $180 I think from growers house.
