can u recomend a plug n go cob light that will cover a 4x4 area, i cant build one but really want to do some testing but need a good one..also i talked to the guy at boulderlamp today we talked about the 3100k agro bulb and the 4200k phillips bulb,, he sais and advised me against using the 4200k bulb..it will work in my cmh but he sais in their testing the 3100k agro bulb performed better in veg and flower,, he advised me to use the 3100k agro bulb in both as the switch from the 4200k in veg to the 3100k in bloom will do nothing as the 3100k agro is simply put a better grow bulb.. his words not mine
Can't really recommend any specific one's as I haven't tried any commercial COB lights yet. I will share what I'm thinking and some links below. I'll be grabbing some to cover off one of my 3x3 areas in the near future, I would have pulled the trigger by now if our dollar up here wasn't so bad against the USD. I've been looking around, found quite a few including grows going with them, some are made by members here on RIU. I'd suggest looking around, maybe posting some questions in this LED forum for ideas and opinions to settle on what will suit your space. Based on my research and the numbers I'd suggest buying something using the latest tech using the Cree 3590's since it'll be a long term investment and there doesn't seem to be a big difference in pricing between 3590's and 3070's. If I were covering 4x4 I'd be considering at least 400w of 3590's driven at 1400ma for efficiency and life, although they can be driven higher to get more wattage for the same price. Many of the commercial fixtures are 300w but I don't see those covering a 4x4 well. The one's I'm considering are these as they are flexible and can be combined to cover off whatever you need. I'm looking at 3 of them (100w each @@1400ma) to cover off a 3x3 as I'm typically running 2x 3x3' to 3.5x3.5' footprints. Don't know what the spread is like with 3590's but I'm thinking I could spread/space 3 of them to evenly cover off a 3x3, that's the main reason I like this design. Besides the ability to configure them as needed, I could run a smaller footprint with 2 of them and use another for a side project in my small breeding tent. I like that flexibility with this form factor as I'm always doing something other than just flowering for yield.

Here's some of the one's I've looked at, maybe a combo of one 300w and 1 or 2 @100w, one on each side to cover off a 4x4 well, note that some are using CXB-3070's. I've seen at least one grow going in RIU with each of these options.

These use Vero 29's which are supposed to be good as well, another modular option where you can daisy chain a few to get the config/wattage you want. I'd consider them if they offered them with 3590's, there are some grows going in here with these as well:

ok i like this one best,

300W 6 COB CREE CXB3070 GROW LIGHT

do you think if i put 2 of these over my 4x6 table they would yield as well as the 315 watt cmh? or same as 2 600 watt hps?.. the other 2 are 749.00 which would youchoose?

My personal opinion, could be wrong, is these are over-rated for coverage. They claim to cover a 3x4' footprint at 16" above canopy, seems a bit of a stretch to me. I can't see any of the single 300w panels covering 3x4 ft. and maximizing yield. I look at them at 3x3 coverage, maybe 3.5 x 3.5 stretching them but not 3x4 well on the 4' edges. In a 4x6 I'd be looking at 3 for this design if I wanted full coverage with top yields.

That's where I'm leaning towards those Tasty LED panels where you can daisy chain a few and spread them to provide more even coverage of whatever area you're trying to cover. They have the 200w T3-1750's with 3x COBs per light, 3x of those spread evenly across a 4x6', with some overlap between them, would provide better coverage imo, and cost the same as 2x 300's ($1,500 for 3x 200w), only thing you're giving up with these is some efficiency as they're running @1750ma but they're also 3590 COBs.

Could you please share those PAR readings with us?
I dont have them right in front of me. I can tell you that two square feet directly under the light at 24in (i believe) were in the high 500's. There was no big spike. The far away corners were 200's. It covers a 4x4 area way more evenly then par's from led, cree and hid hps, it makes up for lower numbers by the spectrum it puts off. I will try to get you the exact numbers. There back at the shop.
I will be running it soon and we will she what she can do.

ill try to do the same readings on the hydrofarm phantom 315 and see how those reflectors compare. its similar enough in design (to the point of being a knock-off basically) that i expect similar results

It's week six and the girls are really starting to swell and shine. This is a fantastic light.
Knew you'd be killing it with that light, very nice! You finding any differences in maturity rate with those strains? They're looking pretty fat :)

Just pulled one of my JTR x Blueberry F1/Pheno 1 clone in a 7gal, looking and feeling like some decent weight, that door behind it is 32" wide and it's 33"H from the soil. A little popcorn right in the center/bottom but otherwise decent buds all the way down.

Results in for 945 watt cmh grow over 4x6 table, 30 plants.. Over 1200 grams. Looks like 3 315's are equal to 2 600 watt hps. Started last test run on Jan,1st. 1k hps over table, I don't think it will even come close to the cmh run,,but we will see.. Please check out my journal for final results..

They seem to be maturing a little faster under the LEC compared to my LED lights. I'll know for sure in about two weeks.
I was originally a bit concerned about the 3100K bulb being able to deliver the levels of resin that I wanted. After six weeks of flowering, that concern has been eliminated, just look at those girls, they're gooey as hell.
So far, no bleaching of buds, or leafs, at 18".

Nice looking plant that JTR/BB cross is. I just transplanted a Grape Ape from a 6 gallon pot into a 15-20 gallon container so she can get huge. In about 3-4 weeks, she'll go under the LEC, and I'm gonna see how much I can yield off of her. The way I see it, the worst case scenario is only half a pound, and the best case scenario is a full pound. We shall see...

They look great, some dank strains in there, no shortage of frost for sure. I have another one of these but larger going in Tuesday in a 10gal I'm thinking the same thing, at least 1/2 lb., anything more would be a bonus. Cheers.

Here's an example why I like these LEC's, they make the most out of whatever you throw under them. The more mature run closest to the camera is about a 3 x 3.5' with 9x 2gal plants of an F2 pheno hunt, Day 48 so 7 weeks. This run was just about finding a decent pheno to carry on the line to F3's, no expectations of weight, no training, minimal feeding, just straight up from seed. But when I was in there last night it donned on me that I'll average a minimum of 1 oz and likely more per plant. So I'm looking at 9-11 zips, close to 1gpw, without even trying for weight :D

Love the information & pics you guys share...

@GroErr or @Bad Karma

What's your thoughts on the SunSystem grow beast, over a 5 x 10 area, on a light mover...this will be for veg.

I know it's a big dumbass light, but I need to cover this area better than it is now (2 big ass hoods,1000watter & 600watter),poor as shit coverage, spectrum, ect.

Cheers @genuity, that thing is a beast! If you have the ceiling height you might not even need a mover. That's a lot of light if you're running the DE +2 LEC's and nice spectrum mix running the 4200k's.
