Been watching alot of you tube clips, about pruning leaves for more light and seems a mixed bag some say no it slows plant down and others yes gives more light all round for bigger buds, anyone tried both and can tell me whats best.

I did a side by side comparasent last year with my AK47. I left the 1 to grow on its own without me LST or pruning (defoliation) and the other was defoled and LST.
The girl i left alone got to be about 6 feet tall and 4feet wide. It produced alot of smaller buds with only 1 or 2 decent size buds.

The girl i pruned and LST was only about 3 feet tall. 5 feet wide and produced some of the biggest buds iv seen.

I noticed everytime when i defoliated and got the light to go THROUGH the entire plant (no shaded areas) the growth exploded. I ended up with more at the end of harvest with the plants i defoliated vs the girl i left alone.

Everyone has their own opionis and expierences. Some people love it... some hate it. You need to try for yourself to see if it is what YOU want to do.

I felt way more part of the grow and enjoyed it so much more. To me it was relaxing and calming. Sitting outside in my garden with nature all arround me... quiet and no one arround to bother me. Ahhhh cant wait for this seasons.

Going to have a couple indoor this time aswell. So i will be able to expierment abit more.

Goodluck! And enjoy!. Im interested to know what ever it is you decided.

Happy growing!

So the plant you left alone had only 1 or 2 decent size buds on it? The whole plant? And she was 4 feet wide and 6 foot tall, with 1 or 2 good size buds on it?

Pruning is a personal preference. A lot of growers say not to cut off the plants powerhouse. Personally I've always defoliated my outdoor grows. Once in veg and once in flower. Nature is not easy on these plants, so they respond quickly. This allowed light to penetrate areas that would be blocked by fan leaves. There is a great article about defoliation during flowering on http:/www.growweedeasy.com. I would try a bit if light Pruning, see if it works for you. Good luck and happy growing!

no no.
I Had a bunch of smaller bud throughout the plant... with 1 nice main coal. The 1 i played with had many main coals and produced more. I did 5 in total. 4 were lst and pruned. 1 left to her own divice. Each of the 4 i played with did much better then the lone girl...

im not asking any one to believe me. I was just giving me 2cents to help out a fellow RIU'er.

Im just picking your brain is all, just visualizing what you did. When you say you pruned, are you talking about pruning some lowers and cleaning up the bottom of the plant or were you referring to stripping fan leaves all over the plant to gain light to your lowers?

I was meaning clean up the lower but also remove a few fan leaves, all videos ive watched where they done the side by side comparison pruning a few chosen fan leaves seemed to do better, ime a newbie so will find out what works for me

Pruning also helps with air flow around the plant and is also necessary in most indoor scenarios IME.

Well I'm all for cleaning up the bottoms branches and leafs, but as far as de leafing the upper portion to gain light down below I don't believe to be helpful. Less plants takes care of light penetration. You'll be able to figure out you situation. Its part of the fun of this.

Hey srry been super busy today. Been trying to get back here. Ya when i "pruned" i was defoliating the big fan leaves that were casting shade on parts of the plants. I would LST them then see what leavs had to go. It was mostly only the bottem and some inside leaves.

The top of the plants i was able to keep tieing them down so it would open the centre up and you could see light right through to the trunk.

It isnt for all. And i only would defoliate during veg. Never when it comes to flowering time.

Hope that kinda helped clear it up for ya. Ill b arround for the rest of the night now. If you wanted to know more or anything else.

Happy trails!
