Why does common sense and putting yourself in peoples shoes seems to be a problem these days?

Like for real, people are selfish only want you for their needs, yeah I know you're going to tell me yeah welcome to real world, but I'm the type of guy that (not to boost my own ego up) I care about everyone and I give people chances I forgive but people take the piss.
Usually these people don't learn, I've tried verbal communication, tried physical communication, and I've tried attacking them verbally and physically yet they just don't learn things.
