when to really switch to veg?

I have two strawberry cough growing and they about 9 inches tall the leaves look green and looking strong. I have read many posts did a lot of searches and my question is this. When do i switch to the veg state? I read when they are half the height you want them to finish at then I read wait for pre-flower. I only want them to get about 2 feet tall and don't want to switch to veg too early so I am looking for some advice. Sorry for the question I am a new grower and almost got this figured out..... I think.

You can veg as long as you would like. That plant will probably grow taller then 2ft after you flip the cycle.

I usually wait until I see preflowers then make the switch.

You mean when do you switch to flower, you are already in veg.

A lot depends on the lights you are using and the size of your room. And you are all ready in veg state I think you meant to say flowering

Flip to flower right now if you only want 2 ft tall and your at 9" now if you don't have any training planned. You will most likely stretch over 2 ft though. If you are running MH and HPS, leave the MH on for couple weeks into the start of flower to reduce stretch. Keep the light as close as possible to reduce stretch as well, regardless of what light you are using.

If you are training you could get away with longer, you could top to help slow upward growth, lst, scrog and so on to grow horizontally and reduce vertical reach.
