ok so my plants are getting too tall and I'm out of room in the grow tent. My question is as much as I don't want to do it do you think it's safe to cut a rectangle out of the top then hang the light above it its in a cool tube and a 400 w with a Mylar liner 210oxfard cloth outside. This will let me gain a foot or more ideas? Please help plants are touching the glass

Absolutely. As long as you don't need to hide the smell. Pictures can give a better idea though. Next time start training early. As long as your plant has air flow and light your good. I grow outdoors so the winter can get very long, so I started growing in my ceiling bubble lol. Works great though. So light and a fan works good for me.

If you are out of space in veg then you probably need a way taller room for flower.
You can tie branches down for the time being but the plant will start to get very wide.

If your still in veg your plants not going to fit... So don't cut a hole in a good tent just take it out or put it outside.

I have it set up so I can lower it as needed. It's working surprisingly well. I have 3 Super lemon Haze's that I wanted to get ready for outdoor and this idea seemed like a good one.

I would sacrifice the top of my plant before cutting a hole in my tent. It's called lesson learned and take the steps next time to prevent it by training your plants via topping, fimming, lst, supercropping. You can still supercrop and be fine. Or top it and take a clone. You didnt mention if you are flowering or not. If you are not flowering it is not too late to top. If you are not flowering yet you are gonna have some fun when they stretch on you. You are in over your head with those plants and that space lol.

You are still gonna run out of space. Sativas love to stretch. Supercropping is your friend. Also, growing them that tall without training in that space will require you to lollypop. Otherwise you are gonna have a lot of larf. Training will help with light penetration as well, unless you plan to supplement light at the bottom.
