Has anyone ever got a string of those big (like outside of your house) LED christmas lights and done some light measurements on them to see if they would work as grow lights?

Uh I don't think there full spectrum lights. Not meant for growing. Good. Led 25 buck like 45w or something. Work for one plant mayb

I think they would work best if you strung them around the plant much like an xmas tree as to provide the best penetration and coverage. It could be an experiment you could document on RIU so we can watch your progress.

OK, so no one has measured the light output is what I am seeing
There's a reason no one measured the lumens of christmas lights friend, but. There are DIY led grow lights on the forums though.. So you could try your idea using lights that will work.. It sounds like you may be a vertical gardener so consider perusing that section.

So that is a no on anyone having any data on them?....just assumptions such as christmas light tech has not advanced at all over time like all other tech has...even hps?

Light is cumulative. Even "shitty leds" are as efficient as CLF's now days. CFL's grow bud. Argo, christmas lights "could possibly" grow some bud with the right density of light.

Is it a good use of funds and time...probably not, most likely definitely not. But the jumping to conclusion based on nothing but decade old through the grapevine knowledge is pretty pretentious to me.
Think outside the damn cob box.

I could see using some white led strips for under-canopy lighting, but I think it would be a pita to put into place, and constantly adjust for growing plants, especially for plants just flipped into flower. Might as well line a box/trash can with strip lights, or just get the SunCloak, imho

150w smd 10m strip makes a good space bucket

but for what they cost you can buy about 6 x 100w cobs with drivers, so not very cost effective

They do make LED christmas lights now....I wish I was that baked! lol In fact, I have a buddy who builds them. I asked him about drivers and he was like "wha??"

My budget ran out after the veg and flwr rooms so we used some led work lights for clones from Homedepot. The husky brand ones, boxed them in with some thermo board (reflective) and shoved my trays in. Been working so well I never bothered to update it.

This has become popular over on icmag in the micro section. Pop the diffusing dome off and your ready to grow. Some are even dimmable.
