DiY LEDs - How to Power Them

My 4 wire fan is blue, yellow, red and black. Would that be different than the 4 wire you linked to?
The fan/cooler says for intel chips but is showing the AMD colours. I'm still a little confused now, do I go by the color chart of intel or amd?


As I don know what I'm doing as far as which wires to connect with the Arctic 11 plus should I just buy one of these and its all plug and play?

Does anyone no about the 160 watt inventronics with 4 40 watt 0.7 amp outputs would this work for veto 29's an 2530's

Yes it does. I have that exact driver. I think it could possibly run 2 of the Vero 18s I forgot what the max output v is but it can run any 30-36 v cob pee output at least.

Just dropped the hammer on 20 of these to play with

Omg that's fucking bad ass. Wish it was a 600w driver though at 72watts and 2100mA :P or at least 500watts at 64watts each at 1750mA.

Sorry if I misled you. No matter the version, pin #1 is black and it's ground. Next to it is +12V (probably red in your case).

Hey All,

Hopefully this is a good place to ask this question as it's related to powering COBs.

I plan on running 4 x CXB3590 @ 1.4A using an HLG-185H-C1400B Driver. I wish to mount the driver about 3-4 metres from the canopy where the COBs will be mounted. Will 18AWG Silicone Wire be suitable for this distance, or should I go with 16AWG?

The stuff I'm thinking of getting is either:

Home Depot has sprinkler wire with 3,5,7,&10 color versions. Just go get the 7 version. It's all 18g Solid core, can be bought by the foot, and has all the colors you need to keep things straight. Blue,red,white,yellow,green,black, and brown. It's one single black casing around them, but once you cut it off, they're all there for your use. I can't think of a better option. Keeping wires their appropriate colors is a VERY useful thing while extending them out.

Forgot to mention, again, I'm in Australia, so we don't have a Home Depot, we have a Bunnings.

You say "solid core". Does this mean the stranded silicone stuff I have linked to above is not suitable and the correct wire should be solid core?

I would also like to know if 18AWG wire will be suitable if I mount the driver 3-4 metres away from the COB string? I don't know if there will be losses over this distance.

And finally, I'd like to put a fuse in the DC output of the driver. What fuses are other people using or is a fuse not needed?

No fuse needed. As far as the stranded or solid question, either works. Stranded actually had more surface area but is harder to insert into chip lok holders without twisting and tinning the ends first. But I just used the sprinkler wire (which I'd assume you'll have down under) because it's cheap, and gives you 7x the actual footage of the original length because it's 7 different wires. :)
You'll also be just fine using the wires 3-4 metres away. Not a big deal I don't think. It says power losses are at 50+ feet/16+ metres.
